The responsibilities of every individual in his or her society
Many people wonder what is the greatest right that people possess, enabling them to enjoy freedom. Many claim that the right of self-defense is the most important one, while others argue that the right of self-expression or some other right is more important. However no one seems to realize that the greatest enabler of right and freedom is individual responsibility. Without individual responsibility, rights hold no meaning. But in order for everyone to comprehend the importance of individual responsibility there are certain questions that need to be answered such as, what does this individual responsibility include or what are the most important responsibilities that an individual should take care of in his or her society? In my opinion, although every individual has many responsibilities in any society, the most noteworthy responsibilities that every individual should take care of is to be respectful and law abiding citizens, to play an active and participatory role in the society, to contribute to the advancement and progress of the society but also to be capable of disobeying and resisting to unjust laws. First of all, every individual should feel obligated to obey just laws and act according to them. It is an undeniable fact that a respectful and law abiding citizen is a blessing to any society. Obeying just laws helps maintain a social stability since righteous laws aren’t getting violated and everyone is likely to live peacefully, while feeling safe at the same time. For instance, imagine a society in which every individual acts according to the laws. In such a society, it is most likely that robbery, murder or burglary wouldn’t exist, which indicates a safe environment for everyone.
