The Second Industrial Revolution In The United States

The Second Industrial Revolution is also known as the Technological Revolution. The second industrial revolution started in the late nineteenth century and continued through the 1930's. The revolution supplied great opportunities for American people along with troubling times. The second industrial revolution changed the lives of the working population for the better and the worse. Most of the workers had an increase in the standard of living but at the same time they experienced harsh and dangerous working conditions. In the late nineteenth century, the need for factory labor increased and so did the industrial workforce. Immigration was a big part of expansion. The new immigrants were coming to America to get away from troubles in their homelands
seeking for a better life. With the immigrants came more troubles with jobs. The immigrant workers were paid very poorly and began to replace the higher paid workers since it was cheaper. The United States had an upperhand of having lots of supplies in natural resources, especially iron and coal. Transport expansion made transportation of food, materials and lots of other goods easier and faster. More than half of the American population lived an urban lifestyle by 1920. In the twentieth century, electricity was called the most important engineering fulfillment. The United States had its highest economic growth during this period of the Second Industrial Revolution. United States was a world leader in technology and new inventions. An increase in production prepared new and cheaper ways to produce the products and also caused a major increase in trades.
