In Schafer's article on the Ineffective Police Leader, he describes "acts of commission as the actions or behaviors that ineffective police leaders have taken. Schafer describers "acts of omission" as the action or behaviors that should have been taken by ineffective leaders. Schafer groups the ineffective leadership habits into three categories: individual problems, occupational problems and leadership problems. His recommendations to overcome these problems include better training, such as a leader development process, instituting protocols and practices, better training and multiple potential corrective measures. My suggestions to a leader to improve labor relations would be better training and better protocols. AS Schaefer pointed…

The irony of the case centers on the sheriff’s campaign promises to return integrity to the office of sheriff. In an interview with the Palm Coast observer on October 24, 2012, while Manfre was a candidate for sheriff, he stated ““violated the public trust. … You’re not supposed to use your position to get things other people cannot get. … He’s the sheriff; … ignorance of the law is not a defense” referring to the incumbent sheriff. The demise of Donald Fleming, the previous sheriff, was due in part to a sustain ethics violation while in office. I started by asking Mr. and Mrs. Smith what they remembered about the night. The mother hesitantly replied saying her son had told her that he heard weird footsteps before he was attacked. She then started to weep from the realization that the footsteps were from the attacker. As her husband tried to comfort his grieving wife, I asked him what was taken from the house. He thought for a moment and then replied, “Nothing, not a God damn thing.”…

It had been a few days since the occurrence of the incident on June 10th. In these few days after the event, I feel both physically tormented and emotionally distressed. It might have been the shock of the event that I unconsciously undermined the physical impact that the fall, tumble and rolling has on my body. The following morning after the incident, purple bruises surfaced in the left knee area, muscle pain and soreness on my left arm and both legs that weren't visible nor noticeable that night. In addition, I feel that I am emotionally traumatized by that night's incident. I can sense that I am on the brink of a mental breakdown. The things that I thought I could have neglect and the negative feelings that I…

Tom wondered for what seemed to be the millionth time why Dectives were required to dress like wall-street bankers or stock analysts. At least that was the expectation in public, however the moment he had the office to himself, he unknotted his tie, slipped off the linen suit jacket, and undid the top button of his shirt, then sat back in his chair, raised his eyes to the ceiling, and tapped the tip of a ballpoint pen against his teeth. That was Tom's usual mode of concentration and contemplation, and so intent was the man's focus on the new case that all else slipped from his mind, even the recollection that he'd texted his wife. Therefore, the sudden familiar sound of her voice, accompanied by the enticing aroma of barbecue, startled him, and he immediately shot upright. The sight of Lila elicited a smile that only widened with the greeting and kiss. "Sorry baby."…

As we walked into the jury room, after hearing the case of Commonwealth v. Miller, I had already decided how I would vote and, honestly, I determined I was not going to be swayed. We swiftly chose a foreman by appointing the one, who had been given the jury instructions, to that position. Next, we read the jury instructions out loud, in order to remember and understand the definition of each charge. Debate over the meaning of the instructions ensued for a short amount of time before we dove into determining guilt or innocence. Everyone was given a chance to discuss the case and, personally, I felt comfortable entering the discussion and debating the case. After discussion, we voted and were evenly split among guilty or not guilty. Next, we…

In the Grapes of wrath, one of Steinbeck's biggest claims is that police are constantly targeting poor people and migrants that were living in poor places and that the system is unfair to unfair to them. Though things may have changed at the same time they did not. Sure police corruption and misconduct still exist, but the way people, and places are targeted hasn’t changed in the slightest bit. When it comes to making an arrest or finding crime, Police today are constantly targeting poor neighborhoods and African Americans. The system is just making it easy for them to be criminals rather than helping them turn around and change their lives.…
