The Theme Of God's Path Jonas In 'The Giver'
I believe that god had a path Jonas. Obviously from the beginning he is different because of the way he see’s things. The book talks about how there more people that can “go beyond”. I think that in the book god sent these people to fix the broken community. In the last paragraph note that it says he is going unconscious. I think it’s suspicious that he goes “unconscious” right after he releases the memories. I think he died. I think that when he released the memories he died because his job was done. If he died because his job was done, and he saw the Christmas scene. Then He must have died because he could not have seen the jesus scene because of the timeline difference.

“Of course he wasn’t dead. He could never be dead until she herself had finished feeling and thinking. The kiss of his memory made pictures of light against the wall. Here was peace. She pulled in her horizon like a great fish-net. Pulled it from around the waist of the world and draped it over her shoulder. So much of life in its meshes! She called in her soul to come and see.” (p193)…

In a way I can relate to Jonas because I am the youngest of three and my older brothers always take care of me. When we had family issues in the past, I was like Jonas and did not know what was going on exactly, and throughout that experience my parents stayed calm to keep me calm and my oldest brother did his best to make me happy and care for me. During that experience I had to grow up quickly, like Jonas, to help my family get through it. I had to stay strong, and have the strength to be there for my brother.…

In Lois Lowry’s The Giver, Jonas and Gabriel travel back in time to a world full of color, freedom, emotions, family, the young and the old together, and love. In the last two sentences of The Giver, it reads “‘Behind him, across vast distances of space and time, from the place he had left, he thought he heard music too. But perhaps it was only an echo.”’ The word time, alludes to Jonas traveling back in time. When the book reads, “‘From the place he had left, he thought he heard music too. But perhaps it was only an echo.”’ The community was most likely not rejoicing at the painful memories, and Jonas and Gabriel were too far for the sound waves to travel, yet there is music. Jonas and Gabriel hear music from other houses, perhaps other towns…

Without feelings he would never have those memories. (Lowry, pg.164-165) “we obviously had to make the decision. Even I voted for Gabriel’s release when we had the meeting this afternoon.” They don’t even care or feel anything for the release of a child. Being released in The Giver means that they are gonna get a shot and killed. They don’t even cry when they do it. I wouldn’t like not knowing what I’m doing is wrong.
