The Walking Dead Group Analysis Assignment
The Walking Dead
Group analysis INDIVIDUAL PAPER ASSIGNMENT

For the individual paper assignment we were given the task of selecting a movie, t.v. show, or series and to do an analysis on the effectiveness or ineffectiveness of group decisions in the film or show. I chose to do my assignment on the show the walking dead, specifically season 4. The Walking Dead is a t.v. series that takes place in an apocalyptic setting, in modern times. After an unknown plague has swept through the world and decimated the human population to the brink of extinction, and turns the deceased into zombies. Survivors of this plague now find themselves wandering from town to town encountering zombies at every turn.

The group in season 4 was an effective group.
Under their circumstances to be ineffective as a group meant to die and not live in any degree of comfort. There were positive relationships that did exist and that also developed over time for instance with the marriage of Glen and Maggie. With the siblings Tyrese and Sasha, and overall with everybody who was allowed to stay inside of the prison gates. In describing the level of cohesiveness I’d have to say they came together and worked together more than just a group would but almost as a family. So on a scale from 1-10 there level of cohesiveness was a 10. They had a common respect and trust amongst each other that over time grew along with them listening to each other and win win problem solving. Elements of relational lifespan are all throughout this series with the exception of the coming apart phase that includes circumscribing, stagnating, avoiding, and terminating. To some degree circumscribing is a common trait but usually a group member’s relationship ends with the rest of the group due to being bit and

Conflict usually was handled in a variety of ways that included talking, not communicating, and compromise. Usually with conflict from outsiders from the group it usually ended up turning into a win lose scenario and even war. There were rules and to some degree norms the longer they stayed in the prison, but not to many norms. Cultural variations didn’t too much impact the group although there were numerous cultural backgrounds. The roles involved included, A leader, a teacher, soldiers, medical staff, children, hunters, and various other roles all with very different personalities. In the beginning Rick Grimes assumed the role of the leader but over time the burden became too much and he eventually relinquished his position of authority to the whole group so they could make decisions as a group.

I do think taking a look at the show I chose and analyzing group elements of the characters was beneficial. For me it was a way to exercise and refresh what I’ve learned so far in another way I normally wouldn’t have been able to. I did make correlations between

When comparing two stories, the reader might stumble upon some revelations of human nature. When comparing the book “Lord of the Flies” to the television show/comic series “The Walking Dead”, the reader can see how the ‘trapped’ characters progress in difficult situations. “Lord of the Flies” and “The Walking Dead” prove that hard times can change your beliefs and often causes people to lose their humanity.…

Some of the awful things done to the prisoners were caging the prisoners, confinement deprived of clothing, and painful bodily restraint. The team from Nut Island had the potential to accomplish great things. They were a very cohesive team. Cohesiveness relates to the degree to which memebers are attracted to and motived to remain part of that team. A cohesive group member values his or her membership and strives to maintain a positive relationship within the group. Every person working at Nut Island wanted to be there and would not let anything get in the way of their team. When looking at only the cohesiveness of a team, Nut Island would be a good example. They worked together and enjoyed what they did at the sewage plant. Employees worked overtime without being paid for it and without complaining. They used everyone’s skills to take care of the plant and the plant equipment.…
