After the Civil War many people became rich. The wealth of people was shown quite clearly. The rich would try to present their earnings in the most obvious ways. However, not everyone can be rich. There were many poor people in poverty. Race, gender, religion, or even politics of the people did not matter. Many people were in deep poverty and it, like the rich and their expensive accessories, showed. It showed by the way they lived. The community was unsanitary and so were the people. Many diseases were braking out from poor hygiene and people were falling ill.
