I stroll back up to the clubhouse. When I am next to the kiddie pool, I hear “ouch” followed by tears. I whip around and a toddler is on the pool deck with a bloody toe. When his mother comes to console him, I escort the sobbing toddler and his mother to the clubhouse. I grab the first aid kit and latex gloves. I first put on Neosporin, which makes the child cry a little more. He starts to calm down after I place a band-aid on him. His mother thanks me for my help.…
Accidents or Injuries: 1) chipped left ankle while playing football and I got tackled by a big guy. It hurt a lot. Went to Coudersport Charles Cole Hospital…
The only problem was my phone, backpack, all my football gear was still at the field. I remember wishing my mom was here and soon enough my mom came into the room. I was so happy she came because I didn't know anyone there and it was scary being alone. Not a single coach came with me. After the doctors said that I am good to leave we soon left. The doctors said to not do any activities in a week. With that being I gave it a week but I should have waited some more time.…
The sky was nice and clear. It wasn’t too hot or too cold. It was perfect. It was a typical third grade day. My friends and I were in recess, goofing around, having fun. We sat on the benches and joked around. Next thing I knew my friend was on my back and I was carrying him around. Not aware of my surroundings, I tripped over a bench, closed my eyes, braced for impact, and fell face first into the dirt. I got up feeling dazed and the first thing I hear is a scream. Confused, I looked over to my friend and her face was a mixture of scared and shocked. I saw friends run to the restroom to get me paper towels, but others told me to go to the office. As I walked to the office, I began to feel pain in my lip. I walked into the office speechless.…
I did end up going to get my mom and she rushed my dad to the ER. His tibia had sustained a…
After that, they stitched up my leg. They thought about stitching my hand, but they decided not to. While they stitched up my leg I watched and asked questions. At first, the doctor did not want to tell me anything because he did not want to scare me, but my dad told him it was alright. Even my dad was too scared to watch what they were doing to me, but I watched the whole thing. I had a total of 11 stitches; seven stitches were internal and five were external.…
I had a neck brace around my neck and IV’s stuck all in my arms. I started to panic, I was lost, confused and scared. My best friend was there in the ambulance trying to calm me down. But still, all I could think about was the reaction of my parents when they found out what happened. Once we got to the hospital, the paramedics took me to Emergency Care. The doctors ran many tests on me: MRI’s, CAT Scans, and X-Rays, whatever test you can name – they ran on me. As I waited for my results, the doctors came in and explained to me what happened. An intoxicated driver with a gun ran the red light and hit me in a head on collision. The driver not only totaled my mother’s car but also totaled his own car too. The good thing was that he was okay. I didn’t know what to be happier about; the fact that the other driver was fine or that the accident was not my fault. Selfish right? But I’m sure if you were me at the time, you would think the same thing.…
So, I ended up in a boot for 2 months. When the doctor told me I needed a boot and that I couldn’t run for my cross country season 7th grade year, I cried I was so heart broken.…
On the word excited she let go of my leg to wave her hands in excitement and my day got a whole lot worse. Pain was all that I knew. My world became a white hot flame of pain. My brain was filled with not so silent screams as my leg dropped off the table. I wanted to die the pain was so bad. Cursing and pleading came from the nurses as they tried to get my leg up and hold me still. I wanted to be still but i was no longer in control. I was shaking and screaming with the pain of a searing hot knife stabbing me over and over in the hip. I blacked out. I woke up in the hallway rushing way to fast to be safe. I was still in pain and i was still shaking. People were staring as i rushed by screaming bloody murder. It took ages it felt like time was molasses and there was no escape. More screaming came from nurses and doctors alike as i was rushed into my room. I heard my father yelling and a face came into focus. That face of the nameless nurse was the only thing that calmed me down. And it helped that she said the only thing that could make me feel better. “Lets knock him out.” they injected me with morphine and my world went…
I was at practice one Wednesday night of January the 11th, in the middle of a defensive drill In which I planted my foot and put all my weight on it ready to turn the ball handler. Then made a quick few steps then dropped to the hardwood I was in a world of hurt. I quickly grabbed at my leg grimacing with pain as my head laid back. I tried to hold back tears, after receiving help to sit down I could feel the cooling of ice on my leg, however, I wasn't able to pinpoint the exact part the pain was coming from. My dad had to come and pick me up and I could not put any weight whatsoever on my leg for literally three days. My mom took me to get an x-ray the next day, the doctor said: “Well the x-rays don't show anything let’s wait a while and if you still have any complications then we’ll schedule an MRI.” About a week and a half went by until I finally got the MRI it took about an hour and the machine kept giving off these strange loud noises it was weird. Then we had to wait for a few days to get the results, It was that Saturday at six o'clock that me and my brother and sister were at my grandma’s then my mom called asking to speak to me I picked up the phone not expecting what I was about to hear, “Cameron, the results came back and you have a completely torn ACL, you need to come home and get back on the crutches.” It felt like I just got shot, I was not expecting a torn…
One weekend, seven of us decided to take a trip down from college to my parents' beach cottage in Panama City [Florida]. We were three guys and four girls celebrating our last weekend before beginning our sophomore year. We unloaded the cars and prepared for bed. I did not know then, but it was the last decent night's sleep I would have. We got up the next morning, loaded the cooler with beer and headed for the beach. We laughed, drank and exchanged stories from our freshman year. After finishing an enormous meal, we continued to drink and dance until 1:00 a.m. We had to get back to school early the next day, so we decided to fill the car with gas and get more cigarettes that night. My friend and I hopped in his truck, me in the driver's seat and he in the passenger seat, and headed to an all-night convenience store. We found one store open about two miles down the road. We pulled in, gassed up and headed back to the beach house. It was a straight shot, just a few minutes down a four-lane highway.…
From there on everything went on smoothly. I made sure to stay with my group at all times. My professor made sure to keep an eye out for me as well. I learned to never run down a mountain and to stay with my group. I had to limp the rest of the trip, but despite all the happened I had fun. It was a trip of many first and all the things I got to do and see made the fall seem so petty. My injury has not healed but the memories of the trip are going to stay with me forever. On the bright side, when it does heal I will have a scar to show off and a great story to…
Later in the day I started to wake up. I felt very tired and sore. I grabbed my teddy bear and saw that they had dressed her in scrubs. Once I was completely awake we ordered food from a company in the hospital called Moose on the Loose. But before I could eat my food, I had to take a baby aspirin. It was orange flavored and I hate orange. But I somehow managed to get it down. After that I could eat my food. I ordered pancakes, jello, ice cream, and a water. I stayed overnight so they could monitor my heart and make sure everything was going accordingly.…
He told me to try and move my arm but I told him that if it hurts to move my arm up and down that there is no way that I could have stretched it out. He told me that he was going to take me to the emergency room since he thought that I might have broken something. Just hearing the idea of this made me anxious. I had never been to a hospital before so the thought of going gave me goosebumps.…
On April 2,2010, I received unbelievable news that changed my life forever. While sitting at "Designing U" hair salon with my mother Lashonda all morning, boredom soon kicked in. I logged onto Facebook and started reading many deviating posts that all mentioned a guy named Dre. As time went by, I started to wonder was everyone talking about my church friend De'Andre Johnson. Once realization set in, my biggest fear became true.…
