All this provides is that the chances of getting the perfect child are slim. However, gene enhancements and gene therapy are able to grant a child that is both mentally stable and capable. Is it right to prevent a parent from such a child, they would love both the design and the chance the same but would happiness be the same. The happiness of both the child and parent are affected when a baby is born with mental and physical illnesses. It is the choice of having a child living a life that is possibly down hill or one that is a guaranteed to have the best chances of a wonderful healthy life. In fact “the bright children of such families will do well in life - and the dull children will do poorly.”(Murray, Herrnstein, 1997) We live in a society that three factors can ensure a life that is great. The first is brains, eugenics and letting parents choose their child can provide an intellectually capable child. The second is looks, again this technology can deliver a child that is attractive to the parents subjective values based on beliefs. The third is one that can overcome the first, it is a trait that makes people work hard for what they believe in, this trait is the will to overcome
