Introduction Obesity is becoming a common problem among the human population. Every people must be aware of the causes and consequences of being obese. This paper will detail about the obesity, its health risks, causes and the methods that can be used to combat obesity successfully. This paper will also analyze the ways in which obesity can be avoided. Diets and life styles changes will also be discussed in relation to obesity. Finally, the paper will analyze the statistics that have been released concerning obesity cases throughout the world.

Consumption of foods such as foods needs to be controlled especially in children (Organization, 2000) These foods have been found to encourage unhealthy weight gain which leads to obesity cases. Consumption of healthy diets helps in preventing against obesity and being overweight as well (Eckel, 2003).
Surgical procedures can also be used in obesity treatment. The patients who undergo these procedures have a BMI of 35 and above. These procedures are targeted towards the reduction of the stomach size (Christopher G. Fairburn, 2002). This is referred to as restrictive surgeries. Mal-absorptive surgeries are also performed in patients who have BMI that are above 40. This procedure reduces the surface area over which end products of digestions are absorbed into the body. These procedures are expensive and they are associated with other risks such as blood clots, infections especially in the lungs (Organization, 2000).
The major challenges faced by the individuals who are fighting against obesity were lack of physical and mental strength, tiredness due to starvation of cells for energy, hyper tension and damage in the eye,and nerves due to increased blood sugar.
