During the initial simulation I played Maxine, an elderly member of the community. At first I was unsure of how to portray Maxine particularly in relation to the concerns of the youth. I found it to be positively challenging to respond to the heated conversation that occurred between Daphne and Jane. I sided with Daphne at first when she raised concerns of the behaviour, as Maxine did have first hand experience of the disrespectful behaviour that was being discussed. However, soon after Daphne expressed her personal solution as “getting rid of” the youth who were involved, which was disputed by Jane the youth worker. By participating in both simulations, I can now further understand the process and importance of transitioning private matters, into public matters. Through this process matters become a strong universal or common goal, which is an important aspect of community work. From this experience I learnt of the significance of supporting everyones needs even if at times it does seem challenging, building horizontal relationships and having a holistic approach when practicing within the community. Something I would take away from this experience that will inform my future practices, is always being mindful and considering the other voices that may not be present at any given
