Music Break Time Bill Reflection
Biography:
Name: Senator Hernandez
Age: 35
City and State: Honolulu, Hawaii
Position: Senate
Name of Your Bill: Music Break time Bill
Reflection:
During the government simulation, my bill passed through committee in both houses of congress and eventually was signed into law by the president.. Being in the food and gum committee of the Senate, we didn’t get many bills. There were only two bills that we received which consisted of one about having gum be allowed in class which didn’t say much or explain much other than allowing gum in the class so our committee just gave up on it and didn’t think it was worth passing. The second bill that we went through was a bill that allowed the class to have a party on Friday and have the class bring food

I enjoyed the fact that we could go to war and have special jobs in government. I got learn a lot as I took the place of a government worker. Some of the experiences I had working in the committees were times when my committee ended up doing not much after the few days due to lack of bills for our committee. For many days of the simulation, my committee just sat around try to think of bills to do for our committee just so that we could be occupied. After the first couple of days, it was really hard for committee to not get bored do to lack of bills to go over at least for my committee. I think the whole idea of this exercise of the government simulation is a pretty good idea. The government simulation allows students to experienced new things and learn how things worked in U.S. history to shape our government into what it is today. This also allows us to get a better understanding of the revolution and how government worked its way around war against britain as our class did similar things such as signing a treaty of unity with West Richardistan and allying with them to attack against Hagaña for taking our 8th grade lawn from us similar to how Britain took the rights of the thirteen colonies. Unfortunately unlike the colonists, we did not win the war as Hagaña had better players than us. I thought that taking over the lands, going to war, voting on a president and signing voting on bills was pretty cool and a very fun learning

The simulated Constitution Convention that we held in class today was very eye-opening. Reading about the events that took place that day in Philadelphia, and actually participating in the tedious act certainly put things into perspective. It was interesting to take the concerns of the colonists in 1787 and fight for them as they did 230 years ago. By conducting this experiment, we got the chance to put ourselves in the delegates shoes and voice our apprehensions and get a sense of the hardships they had to face in that Pennsylvania State House the hot summer of 1787. Anyone can research the Philadelphia Constitutional Convention, but by reenacting, and actually revising our own Convention in class, we got a real appreciation of what occurred…

In 8th grade History, I am positive I was taught about the Articles of Confederation and the U.S. Constitution; however, considering that before this week I wouldn’t have been able to differentiate between the two documents, or even speak to what they were about, I cannot confidently say that I learned about them. The module assigned to us this week in class helped me learn about the differences between the Constitution and the Articles of Confederation; in addition to discovering what the Federalists and the Antifederalists stood for. Though the documents, and the groups of people, shared commonalities, their differences, rather, are what defined the United States as a country, and propelled it in a direction that led to governmental procedures today. The idea of having a three-branch government in America- which was written in the constitution, but not in the Articles of Confederation- is the most interesting thing I learned about in this lesson.…

AP US History is designed as a college level history course with corresponding academic expectations for high school 11th graders. Chronologically, AP US History covers the vast expanse of our nation’s past from colonial beginnings in the 1600s to the present. Several themes of American History will emphasized for students to be able to think conceptually about our nation’s past. Such themes will include American diversity, culture, identity, economic transformations, politics and citizenship, reform, religion, and war and diplomacy. While students do the bulk of their study into America’s past using standard texts and historical interpretations, original source materials too provide students first hand insight into understanding our nation’s history. The course is taught in a “traditional” manner by means of textbook readings, primary source analysis, lecture, and cooperative group-work emphasizing critical thinking. Student evaluation is facilitated through weekly quizzes, unit tests, free-response essays, and daily writing journals. Two weeks are devoted to review for the AP Exam in May 2011.…

This was an invaluable experience as I was able to develop and enhance new skills. For example I was given the role of a leader to ensure that students were using the correct method on the mannequin. When we were given the task to stitch up the cut, I guided them; making sure that they all had clean hands and cleaned the injured area with antiseptic wipes before stitching. I was also able to enhance team-working skills as it was vital during this time. My communication skills also developed as I had to explain the methods clearly. This was a rewarding opportunity and gave me an insight into the work of a…
