Third Reading Observation
For my third reading observation of Jaelee, I went on a nature walk with her class. Before the nature walk Ms. Reta had all the children sit in front of the board and list of some things they want to see on their walk. Jaelee sat in front of the board, quietly and payed attention. She also participated naming of some things she would like to see on the nature walk, she said she would like to see a tree, a flower, and a butterfly. After that the children lined up, and we went on the nature walk. During the walk Jaelee was very well behaved, she was excited about going on the walk. While we were walking Jaelee pointed out different types of trees, she saw an apple tree and knew that it was called an apple tree. She would pick up flowers and rocks …show more content…
Ms. Reta was going to read Widget by Lyn Rossiter McFarland. Jaelee sat in front, and listened to the story. She did not misbehave, and participated in the questions the teacher was asking. Ms. Reta asked what sound does a dog make and Jaelee with the rest of the children responded “Woof”. Towards the end of the story there was a part where a character in the book, an old woman had fallen down and was not responding, Jaelee looked at her teacher and said “this story is going to make me cry”. From her response I could tell that Jaelee understood the story and was really paying attention the …show more content…
Next Jaelee and I went over to the library corner in her class room; I had her pick out some book she would like to read to me. Jaelee is able to hold a book properly and is able to turn the pages. Jaelee is not able to read the words in the book but can use the pictures to make up her own story. The book Jaelee picked out was The Boy Who Wouldn’t Share by Mike Reiss; she knew what the book was about because she heard it before. She knew the name of the book, but when I asked her what the title of the book was and pointed to the word boy she couldn’t read it. But Jaelee did a great job of telling me what the story using the pictures. For example there was a picture of a boy hiding and Jaelee had said that he was hiding from everyone because he did not want to share. Jaelee had told me the way she reads books is by having the story is in her head, I asked her what that means and she said that she knows the story by looking at the picture. Jaelee does not understand that the books contain a massage. She can recognize her own name in print and is able to listen to a story being

However, the time moves forward into the school year as well as backwards in the past to further explain future events. Moving forward, the mood changes to hesitant and tense. The author intensifies the mood by revealing the drama that began the feud between the main character, Annabel, and her ex-best friend, Sophie. The teacher can invite students to anticipate the storyline, then read the story to the students, stopping at significant points to ask for predictions of the story. Another method would be to ask students to restate the story from examining the pictures. Covering word parts with sticky notes and asking the children to predict what word is under the sticky note can also help students with language deficiencies (Tankersley, 2016).…

The author of Child and Adolescent Development recommends reading with your child. You can help your child better understand the story by asking open ended questions like: What do you think will happen next? Can it really rain hamburgers? Another suggestion is having ritual nighttime readings. You can try to have your child create an alternate ending to their favorite story: this allows for your child to build their imagination and vocabulary at the same time. Children learn best through their everyday experiences in play with the people they love and trust, and when they are having…

We help the children develop these skills by interaction with each other, singing songs, reading and sharing books as well as talking with them and discussing the books that we read to them after we are finished. What did they like most? Who was their favorite character? What stood out the most? Showing the pictures in the books as well as pointing out the many characters to help the children associate a face with the story helps them to learn the name and letters in the characters names as well as to remember it. We also encourage the parents if there is a particular book that their child has shown a strong interest in to continue with that book or series while at home.…

Aims: The aim of this assignment is to demonstrate and plan a story to read to a group of children aged 2 and half to 4. I chose this age group because this is the group I work with on a daily bases from 9:30 to 12:30 five days a week. I am picking a story called “Oh Dear” by Rod Campbell who is a Scottish writer and illustrator of several popular children's books including the classic lift-the-flap board book “Dear Zoo”. As it is a story that helps the children with learning the different animals on the farm and also encourages the children to use their imaginations as they lift up the different flaps in the book to see what is behind them. Which Maria Montessori says “Imaginative teaching materials are the heart of the process”. All of Rod Campbell’s “books have simple text often with repeating phrases which is ideal for pre-readers” and will also Help the children with langue and intellectual skills. “The child proceeds at his own pace in an environment controlled to provide means of learning” -Maria Montessori. this book also helps the children physically as they have to get up to lift up the flaps on the book “movement is therefore the essential of life education cannot be conceived of ad a means to moderate or worse to inhibit movement; it should only function as an aid to a better expenditure of energy whilst allowing it to develop normally” -Maria Montessori pg 102 discovery of a child. “The aim of the children who persevere in their work with an object is certainly not to “learn”; they are drawn to it by the needs of their inner life, which must be recognized and developed by its means.” – Maria Montessori pg 120 discovery of a child. To develop their attention spans…
