Soon after group B took the stage. We begin with the idea that the enlightenment, reformation, and scientific revolution caused separation from the Church. Our conversation soon shifted towards which time period was more aimed at the Church. We examined on page 436 of the text and how the physical numbers of the church were dropping during the scientific revolution. Almost all of us agreed that while both the scientific revolution and the reformation did tear at the church, the philosophers tried to be kind to the church at first whereas in the reformation there was a lot of shade being thrown at the church. I would have liked to see us continuing this conversation and bring in the enlightenment in order to truly explore what happened to the Church. Our discussion then finished with an extension to one of group A’s questions. We discussed if it was Martin Luther or the philosophers who affected religion the most.
