Every four years, our country sends hundreds of athletes to represent our country in the olympic games. An athlete who has the privilege of representing our country should be a leader, respectful, courageous, have sportsmanship and set an example. Professional swimmers Ryan Lochte and Lilly king did not demonstrate those qualities as well as women's soccer goalkeeper Hope solo. After what happened this year I think we should be be more cautious on who is able to represent our country in such a big event. This is so because if people representing our country act poorly in a country other than their own it creates an image that americans in general have no respect or discipline for other people.

The results for him were a 10 month ban, not allowing him to compete in domestic and international national swim team competitions through June 30, 2017. His actions did not help him demonstrate the qualities that an olympian should have. Lilly king is another example of athletes not demonstrating good qualities. She taunted another swimmer and even though she won a gold medal she really was a loser because of the way she acted and taunted other fellow competitors. Last but not least was Hope Solo who definitely did one of the worst jobs in being a good sport and be a humble athlete like an olympian should. Solo said some mean and unsportsmanlike things “solo branded her opponents as ‘a bunch of cowards’ and said the best team didn't win” (Franklin). This just shows to go that she was being a sore loser and was being very unsportsmanlike which are qualities we do not need in people we allow to represent our country. I think we should be more strict with the way our athletes act and have consequences so that things like these don't occur again and our athletes are sportsmanlike courageous
