Three different learning styles
There are 7 different learning styles but I am just going to focus on 3 of them, visual, auditory & kinesthetic. Everyone has a different mix of learning styles. Some may find that they have a dominant learning style. Other people may find they use different learning styles depending on the circumstances. There is no right mixture and your styles are not fixed. You can always learn to change your learning style.
I will start with the visual learning style. Visual learning style is where you prefer using pictures, images, colors and maps to organize information in order to communicate with others. Being a visual learner, you are good with maps, have a good sense of direction and hardly ever get lost. The three things that come with visual learning are: cognitive ability, cognitive style and learning preference.
Cognitive ability means you possess low or high spatial ability. You are able to visualize images and scenerios and see the outcomes. Cognitive style just means you think with words and images. You prefere to learn with text or graphics. Some pursuits of visual styles is visual art. Some examples of visual arts are photography, architecture, video or film. You are able to use mind maps meaning where ever possible you use color and images in place of text.
From infancy to adulthood you go through four stages, sensormotor, pre-operational, concrete operational and formal operational. Sensormotor stage is the infancy stage where intelligence is present and knowledge is developing but limited and is based on experiences. Preoperational stage is the toddler stage where symbols or language skills are present. Memory and imagination are developed. Non logical and egocentric thinking is predominate. Concrete operational is elementary and early adolence. It is logical and systematic form of thinking and

According to VARK (Fleming, 2001-2011), visual learners prefer pictures; they tend to look for the whole picture instead of breaking it down, and analyzing each portion. They will remember pictures or diagrams on study pages. Aural learners prefer to hear things; they will re-listen to taped lectures, and should attend discussions. Their class notes might be poor because they tend to listens instead of take notes, but they will recall stories or examples from the lectures. Read/write learners like words or lists; they take a lot of notes, and re-read them over and over. They use dictionaries,…

Learning styles are techniques to help enhance quality of learning. They are useful in problem solving and communication. They help process the information in different ways. There are multiple styles of learning that vary in numerous ways. Evaluating and exploring your own style will provide useful information to help enhance your quality of learning. Because we tend to use different learning styles in different situations, most of us have a mix of learning styles. One of the most popular guides to learning styles is a model developed in 1987 by Neil Fleming, a teacher from New Zealand. This guide is called VARK. The word VARK is an acronym. V, represents visual learning, like using pictures and graphs or charts. A, auditory learning, which consists of lectures, music, discussions. R, and K, for kinesthetic learning, which includes hands-on activities. This paper will address the diversity of learning styles, and how identifying and interpreting your own style may boost the quality of learning you receive.…

A learning style is the way in which a person processes new information. In the learning system there are three main types of learning which are visual, auditory, and kinesthetic. People may learn best by being taught with the three learning methods, but others may not. Visual learners are people who learn by seeing. These people learn more where there are images, graphs, diagrams, and colors involved. Visual learners are learners that first have to see what they are expected to know. Auditory learners learn best by hearing. Lastly, there is the kinesthetic learners, also known as tactile learners, those learners learn best by the physical activity. In a class the students’ way of learning might not be the way the professor…

The VARK Learning style assessment was developed by Neil Fleming in 1987 as a way to improve the development of teachers and to help students become better learners. The VARK inventory categorizes four different sensory modalities with an extra category for multimodal students (Marcy, 2001). The acronym VARK stands for visual, aural, read/write, and kinesthetic learning modalities. Visual learners are students who learn by seeing information displayed using graphs, pictures, or diagrams. Aural learners prefer to hear the information, and process it best by listening to lectures or having information read aloud. Learners that fall into the read/write category thrive on seeing written words, and do best when they take meticulous notes and read them over and over. And lastly, kinesthetic learners do best when the student is partaking in physical activity. These learners need to move around and work manually with ideas and thrive with hands on activities. The additional multimodal category consists of students who fall into more than one sensory modality of any combination (Nelson, 2013). The VARK inventory is one such tool that is easy to use and can give students information on how to maximize their learning. After completing the VARK questionnaire, my learning style was determined to be multimodal with preferred modalities in visual and kinesthetic.…

Visual learning style usually involves the use of seeing something or observing something. Someone who learns visually would usually have characteristics like: need to be able to see something to be able to know it, have a strong sense of colour and may possibly have an artistic ability. Fleming developed an inventory designed to help students learn more about their individual learning preferences. Fleming’s VAK model identified three learning styles; Visual, Auditory and Kinaesthetic. According to this theory most people have a preferred learning style however some people may prefer to learn using a mixture of all three styles. As with the previous theories each style within the VAK model has individual characteristics based on their learning preferences. Visual learners learn best through seeing. They think in pictures and have intense mental images. They like to learn using maps, charts, pictures or videos. They tend to have visual skills in activities such as reading, writing, puzzle building, interpreting charts and graphs, and painting and have a good sense of direction. Auditory learners like to learn through listening. They tend to think in words rather than pictures and learn best through lectures, discussions, talking things through and hearing other people’s opinions. Auditory learners tend to have highly developed auditory skills and are generally good at speaking and presenting. They demonstrate these skills through speaking, listening, storytelling, explaining, understanding the syntax and meaning of words, remembering information and analysing language usage. Kinaesthetic learners learn best through moving, touching and doing. They find it hard to sit…

After completing the learning style assessment, the results revealed that I am a visual learner. My score was the highest in the visual category. These are the characteristics of a visual learner: They have strong visualization skills and they can look up (often up to the left) and “see” the information invisibly written or drawn. To add, they are able to make movies in their mind about information previously read and give vivid details. They have visual spatial skills such as sizes, shapes, texture, angles, three-dimensional depths are strong. Also, they have a keen sense of the aesthetics, the beauty of physical environment visual media, or art. I learn better by seeing graph, and charts in my notes or color coding for organization of information. Certainly, these…

    | My preferred general learning style is auditory, which means I do best by hearing. However, I am considered a multi-sensory learner. There are times where I learn best by doing, and then there are other circumstances where I learn best by observation. I am flexible and my preferred learning style really boils down to, it depends on the environment, task, and information being presented.…

In a recent study, I was able to determine which learning style category I fell into. Three learning style categories were discussed. Visual, Auditory and Kinesthetic Learning Styles were presented. The first part of the assessment was to go through three different lists consisting of different habits often associated with learning and studying. I was to read through each list and check off all that applied to my personal study and learning habits. When I was done, I found that I am dominantly a Visual Learner. Some of the characteristics I possess in relation to being a Visual learner are 1) I often ask for instructions to be repeated 2) I like to use maps or note cards when I review my notes 3) The best way for me to remember something is to picture it in my head. These are some…

One of the most important learning styles that aides my learning process is the visual learning style. Saying that, this learning style allows me to understand and multi task two things at the same time to solve a challenging problem. For example, in mathematics I can be adding and subtracting double denominators and changing fractions at the same time. This learning style helps me grasp the content better and enables me to enjoy it. At times it is necessary to combine more than one learning style to obtain the objective and yield a positive outcome in the learning process. When reading any new material, identifying…

This preference stipulates that an individual does not fall into one given group but all four groups. The individual may have two or three strong styles or all four styles may be equal. The visual aspect states that one learns by looking at maps, charts, flow charts and labelled diagram. This particular style is one of the strongest style being identified as the writer learning preference. This writer does learn a lot by looking at diagrams, charts and pictures they are more influential to catch the attention of the writer as well as demonstrations. Kinesthetic strategy was rewarded the highest score in which is indeed the most desirable way of learning for this writer. It states that the writer relates to the use of experience and practice (Fleming, 2013). People who prefer this style are connected to reality. The writer does learn best from own background practices and value past experiences most than that of others. There is little knowledge learned from aural style as was identified my VARK, this however is correct as this writer tends to be distracted and getting bored very easily. Listening to a teacher talking with no form of feedback from the students does not influence learning unless a chart or some form of diagram is being presented. Some aspect of aural style is helpful, if one is able to discuss what is been taught in a group or web chat…
