To What Extent Should Facebook Be Used For The Ground Of Termination
Should Facebook be used for a ground of termination:

Sometimes the things one says can prove that people are not fit for the job they hold. The outburst of comments on social media are not private they are viewed by the world. There are many people who are posting offensive and racist remarks in this world today. Although people should be responsible and mature and not be putting down others or expressing yourself and others rudely on media. Yes, people have the right to free speech, but companies should have the right to terminate people who use that speech to denigrate the company. Those who are disrespectful to the media should be terminated because they should know better and be a mature adult that they are, if they continue doing this they are more than likely to hurt more people, also bad judgement is not limited to online behavior, so let us control those who are out to hurt others.

Even though they are expressing their feelings they should know that they could be putting someone's life in danger depending on how hurtful the comment can be. People also have to keep in mind that everything you put on the internet it can be seen by the whole world and more than likely will stay on the internet. However it would make that person and the company he/she is working for look bad and if they would keep you after what you have said that would make the company seem like they are agreeing with that person and it would be bad for the company. It stated in the article of: Should what you say on social media be grounds for getting you fired, “ Social media can be a great way to foster conversations about an employee’s recent promotion or a company event.” Therefore those whom judge all the time should not even be posting things on

It has come to my attention that employees are currently posting their comments and concerns regarding the company on Facebook and Twitter either from the company’s resources, or on their own time. Quoting this section on social media, “…personal opinions regarding the Company, should be wary of the danger that such opinions may imply inappropriate access to and dissemination of confidential, sensitive or proprietary information. Opinions concerning the Company that are expressed should clearly indicate that they do not reflect the opinion of the Company, its officers or management.” I understand social media is becoming a dominant force in advertising and expressing opinions, however you must be careful that your opinions do not help in destroying the company’s well known reputation. If you have a concern about the daily activities in your job, the best thing to do is approach management with your concerns and opinions in substitute of posting them on the internet. Our company values its employees and we encourage everyone’s opinions and suggestions because we are always looking for ways to make this company better. We would like our employees to have a trusting and open communication with management and feel that they can approach management with any type of…

In analyzing the three exceptions that could be made to the employment-at-will doctrine, it is clear that John’s actions are not protected by any of the exceptions to the doctrine. When John decided to post his opinions on Facebook, it became public information (Halbert, 2012) thus he does not have an expectation of privacy that he can claim and the company can use it as a cause for termination. As COO it is important to protect all relationships and act in the manner that is best for the overall good of the company. In weighing the actions and potential consequences of the incident, losing the company’s most important customer would be more detrimental than making the decision to firing John. While a company would want employees to feel as though they can express themselves without fear of consequences, it is also important for employees of a company to understand that personal feelings and thoughts should not jeopardize relationships between staff, customers, clients, etc. The firing of John would be supported by the deontology ethical theory. The premise of the deontology theory is that “each person has the right to be treated with respect as the equal of every other, and that each person has the corresponding duty to treat everyone else with respect as an equal” (Halbert, 2012, p.18). In this scenario, John does not treat the customer with any respect; evidenced by his carelessness to post his criticizing thoughts on such a public site as Facebook. Following the deontology ethical theory supports the decision to fire him. Additionally, even though no cause would be needed according to the employment-at-will doctrine, I do believe it would be beneficial for the company in the future to establish online posting policies within some type of employee guide that would prevent any questioning of consequences in the…

Freedom of Speech: “I will respect the right of others to express themselves as guaranteed by the Constitution of the United States.” As Wikipedia describes Freedom of Speech, “Freedom of speech is the right to communicate one's opinions and ideas without fear of government retaliation or censorship.” To make it simple, you have the right to say anything that you want unless it is to excessive. To say what you want doesn’t give the right to say inappropriate things about someone, or something. Even though…

I have tagged this as a hate crime, highly penalized, there should be no room for discussion or mis-interpretations, this should be highly energized by HR upon recruitment, when one employee treats another with disrespectful discriminating racial remarks of any kind, or discrimination on sexual orientation, religion, race etc. I as a leader have no tolerance for such absurd behavior, and have terminated many people because of this.…

There are rules regulating that messages and or posts with direct threats of violence are to be banned, and are grounds for terminating someone’s privileges of using networks such as Facebook and Twitter. These should continue being supported by everyone for this simple fact that it’s something that decent human beings should not be permitted to do. However, Twitter has been known in the past to delete accounts of people who have had unpopular opinions, but have directed no harm or made direct threats of violence. Practices such as these on a public utility should not be sanctioned, since it prohibits someone from exercising their right to free speech. If one disagrees with the message another is spreading, they can simply block them with tools provided by the social media network, or refuse to use it altogether. Each individual is entitled to speak freely, so long as nobody feels they are in imminent danger. In the words of Oliver Wendell Holmes Jr., a Former U.S. Associate Justice of the Supreme Court, “Your liberty to swing your fist ends just where my nose begins.” This quote from Holmes perfectly, and clearly states the boundaries of the freedoms of American citizens.…

I image in every high school journalism class when an article is declined access into the school newspaper because it may be pushing the envelope most students will cry “freedom of speech.” I wonder how many of the school newspaper editors and/or principals are aware of this case and use it as a reference when talking to their students on why the article is being withheld. People still battle this issue every day. Yes we do have freedom of speech, but people need to be smart in how they use it. Teachers, principals, and many other professionals have lost their job over Facebook statues or a tweet. Recently, federal law just announced that you cannot lose your job over a Facebook post. The law just said that Facebook posts are protected under free speech. I wonder how that has effected the people that have already lost their jobs due to that issue. Are they able to get their old jobs back? The argument over free speech on Facebook posts has employers saying that it may affect their business or it makes the school look bad. Which makes it hard to argue against that in court. It will be interesting to see once the dust settles what the court decides on what is and isn’t ok when posting…

Freedom of speech issues are constantly in the media today. There are plenty of incidents where people’s constitutional rights were met with great and unnecessary force. The First Amendment in the Constitution of the United States of America guarantees the freedoms of speech, religion, assembly, press, and the right to petition the government. These freedoms are impeded when their freedoms are met with retort. When free speech is not allowed in the public sector, honesty is no longer accepted. This, in turn, sets the precedent of honesty as being looked down upon and considered rude. Why should someone’s opinions be punished because they don’t go along with what is standard or declared acceptable by others. By infringing on the freedom of someone’s speech, it is the same as punishing them for being who they are. Freedom of speech should not be obstructed or met with retort by the…

It erodes face to face communication skills, it promotes poor communication and friendships, and it also leads to shallow relationships. This new race we are breeding is distasteful, ungrateful, disgraceful. The world is changing, we’re in a new generation, where hard work is fading, teachers aren’t caring, students are failing. Teens want to be given responsibility but won’t get up and work for it. Respect is earned not freely given. Children having children, abortions the new birth control. What about the girl being made fun of by the clicks, or the guys talking about banging different chicks. Preps wearing Abercrombie and Fitch, but it won’t make you any less of a stuck-up bitch. Grown-ups talking about gay rights and how disgusting it is, who are you to judge. We are told to love one another, love is Love, what you are showing is hate. So many suicides today are caused from bullying. Gays, misfits, nerds, or less fortunate shouldn’t matter to anyone. This war unending with millions of lives ending. Do we even know what we are fighting for? Girls wanting respect but won’t cover up their chest. Talking about how to have no regrets, start listening to your parents, they know what’s best. The future isn’t just yours the future is OURS .Let’s talk about pollution, are we really that lazy we can’t recycle? Or how about the World Wide Web? We need to go back to what it was when we called someone on the phone if we needed to talk, were we wrote hand written letters when we wanted to get a point across. We don’t need to start drama over Facebook, kids nowadays need to take their face out of these cell phones and put their nose in a book. Young kids being told to grow up but they learn from what they see. We need to be better examples for this next generation because they are the future. Children smoking at 12, having sex at 14, pregnant at 16 years of age. By the time they are adults there will be nothing they haven’t done. Kids saying “YOLO” and “SWAG” thinking that’ll make them popular and cool. Parents teach your children respect for others and for themselves. But before there can be respect…
