Frank’s response to “Overloaded and Underprepared” in “Today’s Exhausted Superkids” says the biggest sadness to him was the lack of sleep kids get. He says kids today are hyped up and stressed out so they are not getting the rest they need. Frank Bruni states that when he was in high school, it was a problem for teens to get too much sleep and not waking up in time for class. He mentions how “the concern is not how to rouse teens but how to lull them”. Bruni thinks childhood has been transformed.

with the supporting details. I can relate to what the author is saying because I do not get very much sleep at night attributable to my smartphone. Occasionally I will be on my phone checking social media of what time it is. Going to school on 7 to 8 hours of sleep helps significantly. I can tell the work becomes easier because I am not dragging myself along trying to stay awake.
I also agree with Bruni’s thoughts when he mentions sleep helps the mental and physical health.
As one progresses through high school, the responsibilities increase. Students are staying up all night to study for upcoming tests. Bruni believes the real culprit is students trying to keep up with high-achieving peers.
I do not agree with how Bruni wrote his response. Adding additional information from his own opinion does not help one to understand how students really feel. Instead, Bruni should have utilized data or information from students to accurately show how the lack of sleep has an effect on students and their work.
Frank Bruni reflects on his own experiences in the article. Bruni states as a teen the problem amongst his peers was waking up for school on time, not staying up all night. Bruni mentions he was in high school in the 1980’s, which means there were not many distractions such as smartphones. So, with Bruni trying to compare high school now to when he was in high school does not compare very well at all. Bruni does not mention his attitude towards Overloaded and Unprepared, he only puts in his opinions on
everything.
In conclusion, Frank Bruni’s response gives his opinion on the lack of sleep in students and what they go through. His main idea is that students get distracted on social media; smartphones, ipods, tablets, etc. Although, students get crazy amounts of homework on top of all the extracurricular activities they participate in, this causes sleep deprivation, which will later have a tremendous effect on your overall health.
