Do you lack sleep during school? If the school starting time was changed to later in the morning it would be healthier, safer, and learning abilities for students would improve immensely. According to sleep experts, change in sleep cycles starting in adolescence makes it more difficult to fall asleep. The same goes for teens and adults. Typical sleep cycles for teens begins at “eleven o'clock”.
According to studies there is a biological tendency for teens to stay up later and sleep in. Even a number of congress, back in 1999 introduced a resolution to make school start later. Since the 90s sleep researchers have concluded that early school is harming children’s minds. School starting early, affects students in some places immensely. Some students are out walking to the bus or driving to school in the dark. Without supervision students could be at risk.
Due to this, kids are tired and can’t learn at their best. Some people think starting school later and getting out later is not a good idea. I disagree however, I would rather get good sleep and get higher grades and go later rather keep at the morning schedule I and many others have now. Sleep deprivation affects learning, memory, attention, health, and well-being. When students have more sleep studies show they have academic improvements.
Hundreds of schools around the states have changed their school starting time already. Starting later would also save the school lots of money since parents and teens could drive their students to school. Some have seen cost-savings by redesigning the school transportation system. Also there would be fewer delayed school days or no school at all because the school start time would be later. Fewer car accidents as well.
