Tok Essay General Patterns
Essay Question: Only seeing general patterns can give us knowledge. Only seeing particular examples can give us understanding.” To what extent do you agree with these assertions?

When I analyze this statement we have to fully understand what it means. I have to pay closer attention to the keywords. The main points in this statement are what I have to focus on to determine the answer to the question. General patterns are defined as things that people are familiar with and a form of something that is repeated. Particular examples are examples that are exact and/or that relate. Knowledge is defined as information or skills developed from experience, and Understanding means being able to comprehend something. I agree with this statement to a small extent because I feel that we can gain knowledge from more than particular examples and from other patterns other than general ones. When the truth of this statement is looked at the Aoks and Woks provide different answers. The aok of “The Arts” provides way more truth than any other ones. More truth is provided form the arts point of view then the Natural sciences POV.

General patterns and particular examples give us knowledge but is it not the only way. You can not say that the only way a person will gain knowledge is if they learn about something that they are already familiar with. That is incorrect. Particular examples and General patterns might enhance the amount of knowledge gained and understanding but that would not be the only way. Sometimes general patterns don’t give anyone knowledge but they help and make it easier for someone to gain knowledge and understanding. For example when students do math, if they are familiar with it then it is easier to understand and gain knowledge. If a student has been practicing the techniques and ways of solving the problems over time or for a while then usually it is going to get easier for them to solve harder and more challenging ones because of how familiar

People learn from a variety of sources, why? It is because the sometimes people can’t find everything they need in just one source. For example, people will not always learn cook by the paper recipe, when my mom want to cook something, but didn’t know how to, she search it up on the internet. Then, she will cook me some delicious Chinese food. She just learned from the internet which is a different source than the cooking book.…

Learning is taking in knowledge, making sense of the knowledge, and using it when necessary. Since taking this class, my views of learning have slightly changed. I now understand that we all have different learning patterns and that everyone’s learning patterns are very unique. One person may learn best when following directions exactly, another person may learn their best by just doing it. Before this class, I felt that it was only one way to do things, and that was by reading directions and following them. I now know that the way everyone learns is as different as the way that we look.…

Unfortunately, this is not always the easiest way to learn things. The only problem with repetition is that it takes time and does not come easily or without hard work. However, I'd rather work hard to learn things than have everything come easily to me throughout my life. If everything always went my way and was easy I would not know how to face hardships. I would most likely crumble if it wasn't for learning to face with difficulties.…

A lot of time when we want thing to happen in a certain way we expect the other lean the way we like thing. It turns in to a win-win situation when everyone is happy by getting what they want. We can come up with many different theories for learning but the most important of all is observational learning, by observing. We continue to learn something new every day from something so simple to very complex. Learning does not change a person’s behavior as much as it changes the personality of the person. Based on Bandura’s theory, not all that a person observes is well…

    Life Long Learing

The topic of this essay is Lifelong Learning, I want to attack a part of point of the writer, that part is SKILL AND COMPETENCES. The writer state that our learning involves ”knowing how” to do things rather than “knowing that” certain things are true. In my opinion, I think this is not the correct saying ,because I think everyone may learn how to do the things first, otherwise the people can’t do anything without knowledge and basic sense of that work. The writer give and example, we can speak a language without knowing its rules of grammar and syntax. This is a wrong thought, because when we were child ,our parents send us to the school to learn things including language, we can’t even speak a word without learning, we can’t even write a sentence without the correct grammar . Another example is we can ride a bicycle and play billiards without knowing or understanding the physics. This is also a wrong sentence , If we don’t know the basic knowledge, we can’t ride a bicycle or doing other things .The writer want to say that experience is more useful than the knowledge, but I want to attack that it is not the true. I think the most important thing is the basic knowledge. Experience is important but the basic knowledge is more important because we need the concepts of that things first. We have to know that step by step ,and then we can use the past experience. If we these two things, we can probably do things very well. Also the writer state that much of the knowledge in organizations is knowledge by acquaintance and knowing how, but also “knowing that” is include. These are the basic things that we should do in the first period, without knowledge ,we can’t do…
