Too Small For Women
Some people are at their best when they’re interacting with others. If someone’s biggest strength is their ability to speak clearly and effectively, there is good news: there are many careers out there that will let them put their talent to good use. In the article “No Detail is Too Small for Girls Answering a Simple Question,” Tony Kornheiser discusses a common complaint between the sexes. Men and women just do not speak the same language. Gender affects the way people communicate and some jobs just aren’t for everyone. Women tend to elaborate with a lot more detail and go on about the story they are telling. “Boys do not gather and retain information, they focus on results” (Kornheiser, 279). Kornheiser reviews that even though men think of life in a simpler way than women, there are many jobs that require a lot of talking and are perfect for the way women speak. Women have a huge advantage over men when …show more content…

Hairstylists serve as some clients’ confidante and therapist as well as their stylist (Career Thoughts). While they’re clipping hair and mixing dyes, stylists are forming bonds with their clients as they discuss their lives and jobs. Anyone who’s experienced an awkwardly silent haircut knows how strange it is to be inches from the person holding the scissors and looking at you in the mirror, and yet you have nothing to say to each other for the full hour. Without proper communication and conversation, trips to the hairstylist could be total disasters. Learning to talk on the job helps a stylist build relationships with people, establish the types of styles they prefer and dislike, earn more tips, and ultimately, establish a larger client base. Having a way with words also helps the hairdresser who might have to advise against certain colors and cuts. Perhaps most important for the stylist is the ability to communicate what he or she will be doing to the

In Deborah Tannen’s article “Conversational Styles: Talking on the Job,” she discusses the differences in communicational styles between men and women and how they differ. In this article Tannen presents a few examples of how men and women approach certain situations and how each style has its advantages and disadvantages. Including how some men won’t ask for directions even if they are lost, meanwhile women will ask for help when they are in need. In my experience women tend to be more social, well-mannered, and expressive. While men on the other hand tend to be more prideful and dominating, this is not true in all cases.…

The article that I have chosen to summarize is “Can We Just, Like, Get Over the Way Women Talk?” written by Ann Friedman. In this article Ann Friedman discusses how women are undermined because of the way they talk. What she means by this is women are not taken serious when they speak because of the tone they speak in, choice of words they use, and low confidence that is used when they speak. Some specific examples of this are women saying the word “sorry” too much, saying the word “like” too much, and not saying their statements or opinions confident and bold enough. Ann Friedman makes the point in her writing that if a woman is saying something intelligent and all the that the listener can hear is how the woman is saying it, that is the listeners…

If you learn to talk correctly you will go further in your career (Bethel, 2014). You are more likely to give a better sales pitch with the correct communication skills. Let’s say for an example that you work in an office as a salesman. You will either talk to someone face to face, by phone or simply by email. If you are in sales position, you have to communicate with buyers to get your product across to them. If you don’t have good communication with the buyers or investors they are not going to purchase or invest in your product or services. You are not going to be successful in your job or…

Men tend to be more vocal in class and want to talk. Women on the other hand, usually sit back and listen. Though this is not for every situation studies have proven this to be true. “…men speak more in class more than women…many of them find the “public” classroom setting more conducive to speaking, whereas most women are more comfortable speaking in private to a small group…” (Tannen 4). Classrooms are more comfortable for men to speak, they enjoy the public setting with the freedom of debate or discussion. Women prefer smaller, more compact groups for a discussion in “private” in order to express…

Reading the article of “Speaking While Female” by Sheryl and Grant, I agreed and disagreed with the information they discussed. What I agree with in the article was when it finally discussed and pointed out the troubles women face in the workplace compared to males. Many females struggle to have a strong position and opinion to talk in a public setting. Many female as well don’t get the chance to be involved which is unfair. Managers need to be more open-minded than close-minded towards females because of a simple gender.…

Throughout history, communication was a tool to create the powerful or the weak. Communication is the best way to show how confident someone is to express themselves. The articles, “His Politeness is Her Powerlessness”, “About Men”, and “The Woman Warrior” outline their unique vision of communication. These articles vary from comparing woman’s speech in different cultures to silent Asian children to misconceptions of the American…

In the article, “But What Do You Mean?”, author Deborah Tannen discusses what she has observed to be differences in ways that women and men communicate. She concludes by stating that neither communication style in incorrect, however, to alleviate miscommunication women and men should use language that is understood by both parties. While I don’t disagree with Tannen’s observations I find some flaws with her solution. Women and men are not significantly different, as recent brain studies have shown, I believe that the differing socialization of women and men as children breeds the stylistic communication differences Tannen describes. So while limiting one’s speech to common language may work in a pinch, there is a long term solution that could…

As the society changes to individualism, there are a lot of people having problem with communication. Become a big issue that although communication is a very important skill in our life, some people are just living with ignoring this fact. Researchers try to find the what causes are affected to people and some of them found the issue was from between men and women that using differences brain function which is men used left half of their brains while listing to the novel, while the women used both halves of their brains. However, I would be hard to agree this research. Although researchers found men and women uses different brain function, I think the most important thing is their environment, we would not say that who is a better listener by gender because a person’s behavior shows up from their personality. Particularly, it is caused by their friendship or from parents or it can affect his or her cultural style.…

A major disparity between men and women is their conversation goals. Women always want to share everything, but men do not. For instance, a woman likes voicing everything she thinks and how she feels. Moreover, the women like to tell story what happened in a day and she want her partners can feel and understand her story. In contrast, a man does not really want to share what is going on in his mind, except that the conversation is inevitable. In contrast, men do not want to share his…

Cosmetology is one of the many careers people think of as easy (Interview). This career allows the workers to build positive relationships with clients and co worker.
