Oprah and Chelsea Lately both earn large paychecks talking. Sure, Oprah oversees a multimedia empire and Chelsea Lately has a career in comedy, but their primary jobs are hosting talk shows and conversing with guests. Talk show hosts do a lot of interviews and talk to a lot of people to gather information. They interview show guests about their lives, their work, or topics of current interest (Careers for Talk Show Host). They all have the same career, basically chitchatting in front of the world. That’s the entertainment world though, and most of us aren’t paid to be that verbal.
Not everyone has a knack or true liking for being able to help others. If you’re a true people person, it’s ideal to be able to incorporate your extroverted and caring personality into your work life. Nurses are some of the many people who always have to be on top of their work. You can’t possibly list every responsibility nurses have. Whether in an emergency room, physician’s office or a number of other settings, nurses are working one-on-one with patients, ensuring tests are ordered, updating charts and staying calm. Patients who are sick or about to undergo surgery are often temperamental, nervous, or just having a good old-fashioned freak-out (10 Jobs for People Who Love to Talk). The best nurses stay on task while talking to patients, whether finding out more information about their malady or just trying to keep everyone calm. Here, the gift of gab can be a patient’s dream. Being very introverted and not talkative or descriptive can become a problem when you’re a nurse.
For many people, hairstylists are the human equivalent of a Leatherman knife; they are needed in life.
Hairstylists serve as some clients’ confidante and therapist as well as their stylist (Career Thoughts). While they’re clipping hair and mixing dyes, stylists are forming bonds with their clients as they discuss their lives and jobs. Anyone who’s experienced an awkwardly silent haircut knows how strange it is to be inches from the person holding the scissors and looking at you in the mirror, and yet you have nothing to say to each other for the full hour. Without proper communication and conversation, trips to the hairstylist could be total disasters. Learning to talk on the job helps a stylist build relationships with people, establish the types of styles they prefer and dislike, earn more tips, and ultimately, establish a larger client base. Having a way with words also helps the hairdresser who might have to advise against certain colors and cuts. Perhaps most important for the stylist is the ability to communicate what he or she will be doing to the
client.
News reporters, as far as the public is concerned, are just talking heads, but they do more than just stand in a hurricane and tell you that it’s wet and windy. Reporters interview people, both in taped segments and on air. They need to be able to communicate with their guest and understand their story. A difficulty many news reporters come across is the act of mumbling, incoherent mess while doing their job. If you have experience elaborating and discussing different issues with people you will be more likely to be open and relaxed during a broadcast. Amazing news goes unnoticed if the reporters’ speaking abilities are subpar, so their talking process needs to be as outstanding as their investigative skills. You want someone who can talk on camera as if he or she is talking to you one-on-one, and that’s not an easy task.
Many individuals get annoyed with women who talk too much. Little do they know, this characteristic helps them attain a better job and helps them get through their life. Many of those chatty women are the ones that will talk you through your problems and help you when you are in need. If everyone in life were not descriptive like the majority of men are, we would have many problems in our daily lives. The two halves of the communication differentiation that causes so many problems between men and women are; A woman expects a man to notice, to be aware. If there were a connection between them, he 'd know what she wants. A man expects direct communication, an explicit request. If somebody wants something done, she should ask for it. So many more people help keep society going than just talk show hosts, nurses, hair stylists, and news reporters. Men and women naturally speak in different styles; however, these differences are perfectly okay because everyone has their right to freedom of speech.
