I also knew that the CN tower is a famous landmark not only for torontains but also for canadians. Now, I know a lot about Toronto because of this project. Studying the five themes of geography really helped me to understand a place not only Toronto but other places as well. I learned exact locations, places that are near the actual location, movements, regions, and more. The five themes of geography also helped me to understand not only the place itself, but geographic part of it. For an example, from my project I learned that some people have the perception of Toronto as a hated city. One person from Canada

From city to city, cultures, environments, and beliefs vary immensely. A city means more than simply “a large town.” For example, my own home of Dallastown, Pennsylvania differs drastically from the much larger city of Philadelphia. Where I grew up, the white population is the overwhelming majority; Philadelphia obviously differs in this category. Cities provide a haven of interesting people from conflicting ideologies, color, and financial statuses. My home’s landscape is regularly hilly and forested, whereas Philadelphia is full of skyscrapers, streets, and city-lights. Every town and city is unique in their own sense; landmarks, culture, music, and even transportation define what that place might stand for, or signify. I’ve visited numerous…

It is a city filled with wonder and dreams; a city stitched into a pattern of hundreds of cultures; a city both complicated and simple; a city that shines like a bright northern star. This astonishing place is called Toronto. This is where I set roots after I got off the giant silver bird, under a borderless sky, and where my dreams I hope, will soar. Such a fantastic place it is, with beautiful scenery throughout the seasons, so many people wanting to help and join hands with each other, whatever their colour happens to be. It is this city of Toronto that opened my eyes, my mind, and where my world truly began.…

Students will examine the ways that artists use the aesthetics of mapping and representations to communicate ideas about space and location. Following the guided collection of visual, spatial and personal information that occurs during routine explorations of their environment, students will create a work that layers and abstracts visual information using maps as an underlying structure. Through project-based learning, students will research, collect data, interpret and communicate their ideas and experiences about space and place. A cycle of development, feedback, revision and reflection will guide these investigations. Teachers may choose to work with their physical education colleague to link this art-making experience with the geocaching cornerstone.…

My time in AP human geography class in tenth grade was a time when I was truly excited to learn a completely new subject. Human geography opened my eyes to a subject and view of the world which can explain almost everything from seemingly “common sense” questions to the questions we ask ourselves everyday is humans and yet can only theorize over. This experience truly fascinated me as I was able to take all of my…

Where would you go in Toronto to see a free outdoor concert or festival? Yonge-Dundas Square also known as YD square is located right across from Eaton Centre Shopping Mall at Yonge and Dundas. YD Square was previously called Wilton street. The place has been historically known as the Centre of a Community as well. Upon the approval of Toronto City Council, YD Square project was started in 1998. The project was jointly involved with not only the City of Toronto, but also the downtown Yonge street businesses and resident associations. Then, the construction of the new YD squares was completed in 2003, and the first public-private partnership called the board of management for YD Square was established to manage the public square in Canada. Because Yonge-Dundas Square, outdoor piazza, promotes plenty of free events and entertainment to bring people together in the heart of downtown Toronto, the community should develop strategic plans for public safety and seasonality.…
