How does food taste without seasoning? Tasteless, uninviting, bland doesn’t it? Food without seasoning is like St. Maarten without tourism. What is tourism really? Tourism is the commercial organization, operation and travelling for recreation, vacation, business or visit to interesting places. As a small island in the Caribbean, St.Maarten is known for its beautiful white sandy beaches, friendly people, astonishing airport, and our wide shopping variety. Every country in the world experiences some form of tourism whether it is cruise-tourism or sports tourism, so what makes St.Maarten different from those “other countries” that experience Tourism; St.Maarten/St.Martin is a 37 square mile island that is split into two different nations, Dutch and French; the island invites an average of two to three cruise ships on a daily basis and most importantly, the majority of the island’s economy depends on it. Therefore, tourism is definitely the seasoning to St.Maarten’s food. With elegant hotels, dozens of beaches, beautiful villas, over three hundred restaurants, and dozens of casinos and adult entertainment, it is understood why St.Maarten is one of the most visited islands in the Leeward. However, tourism in St.Maarten allows visitors to experience over 106 different nationalities and cultures on a daily basis. Since St.Maarten has no other form of income, Tourism is basically needed; it’s a necessity on the island. Every salary made, every bill paid, basically every sector of St.Maarten functions because of tourism. The economy of St. Maarten is directly proportional to Tourism, that is, if tourism on the island increases, the island’s economy increases; if tourism on the island decreases, the island’s economy decreases. As an island of our size, we have fairly limited the things we have to offer. However, as an island, we offer what many first world
