Transgender Student Restroom Research
Should transgender people be allowed to use the restroom they choose based on how they identify, not their assigned birth gender? My answer to this question is not a yes or no. On the surface I do not care who is in the restroom I am also in. All stalls should be single person and private. This would satisfy each side of the argument. I am more concerned with other matters of safety such as hand washing. There's a higher danger from that than from using the restroom with a transgender individual. I wholeheartedly agree that all humans deserve to be treated with dignity and respect. If we ban choice than we take away the dignity and respect from the transgender community, but if we do not limit choices some might argue that we remove the

We see on the news or social media daily stories of children being abducted. The conservatives have presented the argument that children are at greater risk if transgender individuals are allowed to choose their restroom. (2016) It is said that if you allow choice then pedophiles would then gain access to children. (Brady, 2016). Looking at the statistics this argument is unfounded. There has not been a rise in crime against children involving trans or fake trans and restrooms. (2016) The fear has been escalating from groups such as Restore America, who spread this viewpoint in order to remove restroom choice. (Brady, 2016). When in fact the risk for children is from individuals dressed as their birth gender regardless of the restroom choices. Picture with me, if you will, the mother of 3 rushing in with her children for a potty emergency. She is distracted with the newly potty trained 3 year old, while the 5 year old tries to entertain the fussy baby in the stroller. At this moment she is not thinking about the transgender individual who enters the restroom and chooses the stall furthest away. She is thinking about helping the 3 year old while not loosing sight of the other two children. If she's lucky she was able to grab the large handicap stall that can provide room for her family, if not she has left two of her children out of reach on the other side of the door. Can you see the situation this puts this mother in? Her fear is not unfounded, but the conservatives are pointing it in the wrong
