The Congress is reliant of Washington is because he is determined to follow through orders. Washington possessing this determination assisted him turning a lost cost into success by him wanting to achieve the orders and his goals. Some qualities that were vital of him being a successful leader are his endurance and him being bold. However, those two qualities weren’t present during the battle of New York, they were key to the victory of battle Trenton. These qualities proved to be essential to lead his men because his endurance allowed him to act nimbly, and was also intelligent to make the crucial moves during the battle of Trenton. Also, his endurance permitted him to handle tough situations, such as freezing temperatures. Washington’s boldness allowed him to not fear for the worse, and gave his fellow troops the courage and belief needed. Lastly, George Washington’s confidence, which grew throughout the book, helped him achieve the belief he needs in his troops. Having the faith from his army meant that they would go through with the orders. Thus showing how these qualities: endurance, confidence, bold, and his determination helped him succeed in being a…
The Americans were very stubborn. Even though the British tried to push them in the mud, and into Trenton. It started pouring rain so hard they both agreed to finish the fight in the morning. General Washington had a different idea. His plan was to sneak past the sleeping British and go to Princeton. So they did just that. They left a few campfires blazing and snuck past the sleeping British heading towards Princeton. When the American army arrived at Princeton the British started to panick. They thought the Hessians betrayed them and started to flee. Once they realized they were mistaken they tried to get in some order before it was too late. They tried to fight off the Americans but they were too strong. Then British reinforcement came to help the ones who fled. Washington tried to gather his men together but they were weak and couldn't bare it any longer. Then came hope a trumpet blew, and over a hill came General Sullavin with American reinforcements. Then suddenly American soldiers had the strength to strike back again. Eventually British soldiers started to run in all directions. The Americans won the battle of…
Despite the patriot’s strong moral hopes, they were not seen as victors. They took battle loss after loss and yet kept pushing. Right as their will was dying, their fate would turn for the better. Fort Ticonderoga was the first Continental army victory in the revolutionary war (The Capture of Fort Ticonderoga). Although this specific spot actually has more history with multiple other wars, it proved to be the place where the American Revolution would come into the hands of the patriots. This win on the battlefield gave them the strength and perseverance needed to continue into future battles.…
Indeed, the battle showed that the British army was not invincible and gave the newly formed country confidence that Washington was the right leader of the Patriot forces. While it is true that the successful surprise attack across the Delaware helped to bolster public opinion and revitalize recruiting for the cause, the chance of a quick victory for the British had already passed. The British were already responsible for yielding the strategic initiative to Washington. By not completely crushing the Continental Army and then failing to negotiate peace at the right time, the British invited the military debacle at Trenton. The abandonment of loyalists in the south, Patriot propaganda led by Thomas Paine and Samuel Adams, and the mere survival of the Continental Army had already determined why British had missed their opportunity for quick victory in…
There are many major contributors that helped the United States win the Revolutionary War. George Washington, is the most well known general, but there are many more, such as General Daniel Morgan. He is known, just not as well as George Washington. He is a rifleman who was at multiple battles, such as Saratoga, The Assault at Quebec, and the Battle of Cow pens. These are all very important battles that affected our world today. The Battle of Cowpens, however, is the most significant.…
General George Washington’s commitment to cross the Delaware River on Christmas in 1776 foreshadowed the many hardships faced as well at the eventual victory of the Continental Army during the American Revolution. At first glance the decisions to transport 2,400 Continental soldiers across an icy river in one night, directly into a server winter storm of sleet and snow seems irrational. Crossing the Delaware River which occurred on December, 25-26 1777 American Revolutionary war was the first move. Pushed across washington fought back a surprise attack in Trenton, New Jersey. Washington crossed the Delaware River so that his army could attack and Isolated Garrison of Hessian troops located at Trenton, New Jersey.…
Nathanael made a smart move by dividing his forces and coordinated their efforts into a ”flying army” doing so spreading his resources out .The race to the Dan river where Greene’s forces outran the British and beat them across the river, by the time the British got there the river was too high to cross and the boats were at the other side of the river. Battles leading to the defeat of the British included Hobkirk's Hill, siege of the Ninety-six, and Eutaw Springs. Little more than a month after the battle of Eutaw Springs, Cornwallis surrendered to Washington at…
George Washington was a leader, for instance he motivated the Continental Army to keep fighting even when they had lost almost all hope. On March 10, 1775 Washington was appointed as Commander of the Continental Army. Washington decided to deny the salary that came with his job because he felt in debt to our community even though with this position as commander he would've received a large salary. As British troops marched into our country, he motivated our troops to work as one and gain back the hope of winning. We may lose a battle, but we aren't going to lose this war was the mindset he had put in their heads.…
On October 7, the small colonial army led by General George Washington defeated the powerful British Army numbering at about 7,000 soldiers at Saratoga. Patriots throughout the colonies are stating that the Battle of Saratoga could have been the turning point of the revolution. General Horatio Gates led his men bravely into battle against the Hessian mercenaries, and the British Army led by Burgoyne. The British Army was in dire need of supplies after being defeated at the Battle of Bennington and George Washington used this and his fortifications to his advantage. Fearsome fighters such as General Arnold contributed heavily to this colonial victory.…
Washington proved to be a good leader. although he lost more battles than he won he employed a winning strategy. His army wasn't well trained at all. Washington managed to force the British out of Boston in 1776. due to washing tons great leadership through the war they elected him as the first president in…
No battle was fought at Valley Forge, yet it was the turning point in the Revolutionary War because it gave the army a backbone, made the soldiers stronger for upcoming battles, and helped them win alliance with the French. It was here that the Continental Army was hopelessly drenched. After the battles they had fought, Valley Forge gave them another reason to give up. They arrived bloody, beaten, and war-torn. What would you expect from an army who went through these difficulties and yet, life throws them the winter of Valley Forge. To the point of giving up, the army stood their ground and kept on fighting for their independence. Without the winter at Valley Forge, Britain would still have power over us. Because of the results of Valley…
General George had just retreated, and decided to cross the river. He had an army of 2400 men, and had planned a surprise attack to the Hessians. The journey to crossing the river, started at 8:00 P.M. and the weather started to get rough. It was snowing really hard, and snowed so hard, it slowed and delayed the trip, until they reached Trenton at 2:00 A.M. Finally, battle begun.…
The Battle of Trenton was the most important battle to American victory during the Revolutionary War. I think this was the most important battle because nobody died except the British. I also think this was the most important battle because this was the first time the Americans jumped on the British first. For example, while the British were sleeping, the Americans attacked them first. The British would usually attack the colonists first. Another reason why this battle was most important because 900 British were caught. The Americans were proud about this accomplishment because they never had enough confidence that they would beat the British. The president should donate $1,000,000 to make the museum about the Battle of Trenton because of all…
As a courageous and outstanding leader, George Washington lead the Continental Army in Valley Forge. Washington was the father of his country, also known as The United States of America. He was a young leader during the French and Indian War but he was beyond the right choice for the job as he led America to victory. Washington was a Virginia planter, that taught him respect and great working characteristics to go ahead and take charge in the Revolutionary War.(Beck, 263) George Washington was a delegate of the First and Second Continental Congress, which means he has an idea of politics and leadership. As Washington was part of the Founding Fathers which was a group…
The Battle of Yorktown was the last major battle in the Revolutionary War. It started when figured out that high numbers of British troops were staying in Yorktown, Pennsylvania. Then, the French general, Comte de Rochambeau and I quickly came up with a strategy to trap their army because we out numbered the British general Charles Cornwallis's by more than twice the size. Comte de Rochambeau was sending ships up the east coast to aid my army. We then had the idea of using those ships to block off Cornwallis direct supply line and reinforcements troops with the British navy.…
