Counseling can be used in conjunction with probation to help the juvenile work out the issues he/she may be having that is causing them to act out in criminal ways. If a child has a family that his/her parents abuse drugs, has suffered abuse or neglect, this may cause them to act delinquent and believe that their behavior is normal. Teachers are often in a great position to recognize early warning signs of teens involving internal conflict. Most teens who are troubled by something will often give potential signals that they are being conflicted, such as making threats to fellow students or their teachers, or writing various things in notes or their journals which show signs of…

In an article written by Diane Dew, titled The Trouble Teens Face, It was stated that in recent years the media has been flooded with articles about the problems teens face. These problems range from drugs and violence, to pregnancy and abortion. I want discuss abortion because it is such an important issue for my generation. Since the 19th century English common law forbade abortion. Abortion prior to quickening was a misdemeanor and then a felony. In 1967 the first two states to make abortion legal was Colorado and California. By June 1970 New York passed its first abortion on demand law with a 24 week limit. It was the 16th state to allow abortion when the other states were still very restrictive. They only allowed abortions for pregnancies involving rape, incest, life of the mother or fetal handicap.…

Runaway youth is a serious problem that America faces today. Whether it’s just a youth’s way of trying to hurt their parent’s feelings, threating to run away is no laughing matter. Sometimes it’s not a threat to run away, sometimes they leave unannounced leaving the parent usually with grief, anger, and confusion. Between 1.6-2.8 million youth run away each year in the United States (The Truth About Runaway Teens, 2013). Those numbers are just the numbers of youth running away. Even when a youth runs away, they have to fend for themselves on the streets, which sometimes have some devastating results. In order to stay alive some of them have to resort to robbery, sexual acts, and sometimes those things can lead to death unfortunately. There are plenty of reasons why a child might run away; however, a common issue is their sexual orientation.…

    Status Offenses Essay

As I have read about the main causes of status offenses, many of these teens live in abusive or neglectful families or have gang influence. They see no purpose in going to school due to feeling as though they will not receive the help they need to succeed from their family or community. My solution is to have these teens be administered into programs in school or in the community that promote success and a safe way to promote behavior acceptable to the world. The programs I suggest could simply be recreational in nature at first, such as an afterschool program, sports, or study group, then slowly grow to provide guidance of families and individuals. I personally had friends throughout middle school and high school that dealt with family issues that lead them to “act out” and seek attention where it lacked. Only a few changed due to becoming part of groups offered in school and by the community such as chess club, club tennis, and many others. Although this possible solution requires catching them before they go through the juvenile system it is not hard to be aware of the signs exhibited by possible offenders. In whole I am suggesting a redirection of finances by the community to offer alternative ways to deal with these burdened teens in a noncriminal manner. A program that offers counselors to support and provide a solution to these behaviors in a way that…

A better option could be to have a mentor that encourages engagement in constructive behavior through therapeutic relationships and group sessions. However, there is an extent to which this can be effective: the community has to have the ability to build on their strength and to commit to creating a system which can influence positive behavior. This could be difficult for communities that have a different standing point on the approach of strengths-base or for neighborhoods who lack to fund to create facilities that contribute to beneficial behavioral changes. Nevertheless, there are charitable or government-funded organizations provided in unpredictable neighborhoods, so while the school and the community are in efforts of strengthening their structure, there is always a place a troubled adolescent can turn to for support while in an unstable…

Adolescent rebellion occurs for many different reasons. Either it's skipping class, or sneaking out past curfew, or the main reason is always for pleasure. Kids tend to rebel to get want they want. But the one of the main causes of rebellion is because of family. Families are the people who set your boundaries for you. Parents set your rules for you starting when you were young. Siblings have their boundaries and certain rules that you have to or can obey by. And it is your decision whether you rebel against the rules that you are given. Family is completely relevant when it comes to adolescent rebellion cause specifically in the book Catcher in the Rye and the movie Dead Poets Society, when parents are being to controlling or overpowering adolescent people decide to rebel.…
