When living in the court of King Henry VIII, one must be cautious at all times. A single wrong move, and the overly paranoid King would have your head in a basket before you had the chance to make your case. This lesson was learned by the King’s closest advisor, Thomas Cromwell in the early half of the 16th century. “Class was everything at the court of Henry VIII. You were born into greatness. You did not work your way up.” English society has always been notoriously classist, and this was especially true during the time of the Tudor throne. Despite the odds however, Cromwell managed to quickly rise through the ranks of English society. He worked his way through the English upper classes and made both himself, and his station essential to…
My artifact for the renaissance is a castle. this artifact represents a merchant's life and changes. The merchants, in my perspective, were the most hard working class and the class who created the bunch of changes. I chose a castle because a lot of o merchants became very rich from the growth of trade and because they were able to buy castle's from the nobility class. Just like the nobility merchants with a lot of money could now have spare time and money to learn how to read, play music, and admire pieces of art. Back when no change occurs church members and nobility were the only ones who could own expensive goods. Now that the merchants class grew wealthier they started to build large houses and were able to own luxurious…

Henry VIII is born in June of 1491 to Henry VII and Elizabeth of York. Being the second born son of this time he is considered to be the spare, while his older brother Arthur will be the heir to the throne. Since Henry is the not as important second born son there are very poor records of his upbringing and education. With this is mind it might be safe to assume a very common practice for this period of time would have taken place. This practice would be that of forcing the spare into the church with the hopes that they would become a high-ranking church official. Ultimately, this does not come to fruition with the death of Arthur in April of 1502. Since his brother had passed Henry VIII now takes his place in the succession making him next…
Henry VIII took over the throne of England in 1509 after his father's death in 21 April 1509. (Hanson, Marilee) Henry was a charismatic leader and was born with everything in the palms of his hands; good looks, health, power, and most importantly; wealth. He took reign during peaceful times. (Encyclopedia of World Biography) But all was for naught for during the period of his reign over Europe his once strong mind and health would deteriorate and lead to a tyrannical rule over Europe, (CR Chalmers) the separation between church and state, the death of his wives, as well as the conquering of other lands throughout Europe. (English Bible History)…
The York Minster Cathedral is an inspiring place of worship for pilgrims traveling in England and the rest of Europe. York Minster Cathedral was built to replace an earlier cathedral which had burned to the ground. When Walter de Gray became archbishop in 1215 he ordered the construction of a Gothic structure to compare to Canterbury; construction began in 1220. The north and south transepts were the first new structures completed in the 1250s. A substantial central tower was also completed, with a wooden spire. The Chapter House was begun in the 1260s and was completed before 1296. In the 1280s, the wide nave was constructed on the foundations of the old, Norman-style cathedral, which had been burned. The outer roof was completed in the 1330s,…
