In the Poem “Ithaka”, Cavafy tells us that we should spend time on the journey and not the finish line. Cavafy tells us that we need to take our time and smell the roses along the way. He says that “As you set out for "Ithaka" hope your road is a long one” (2). This is saying that he wants you to focus on the journey. This poem is the opposite of Odysseus. It talks about enjoying life and not spending doing nothing. Cavafy tells the reader to enjoy life and the journey by appreciating it. The author talks about how Odysseus not being happy to be home after 20 years and he doesn't like his wife. He calls her old. “rugged”(5). He doesn't want to be king anymore. He describes his son as a good leader. “When I am gone. He works his work ,I mine (42). This shows that since odysseus is at and home age he has given up on being king and really wanting to to do anything The best part of Odysseus life was the battle of troy and getting to travel the world.
