Under The Persimmon Tree Najmah Character Analysis
(AGG) Over 100,000 people die every day, imagine what this must be like for people that lose loved ones. (BS-1) Najmah’s brother and father got taken by the Taliban, which caused her to become even more mature, than what she already was.(BS-2) Najmah’s whole life has changed, the war caused her to loose her mother and baby brother so now, she is in total shock and she has to make dangerous decisions. (BS-3) The loss of her family, caused her to not trust others, but she can trust the close people around her. (TS) In the book Under the Persimmon Tree, Najmah was immature until she experienced losses, which caused a major impact on her, and her whole life changed.

(MIP-1) Najmah had a happy life, until her brother and father got taken by the Taliban, she then became very protective and mature. (SIP-A) Najmah had a good life, she didn't have a lot of responsibility, and she was very childish. (STEWE-1) She didn't have many chores to do except carrying wood and taking care of the house. Najmah is scared of leopards trying to get her, when there are no leopards near by. “I saw a leopard’s pug marks in the dust here last night” Nur said, (Staples 5). Nur is making Najmah get scared, which causes her to not want to do her chores. “I hesitate when the two paths split,” (Staples 5). Once she separates from her brother, she gets very scared and rushes to do her chores. (STEWE-2)

(BS-3) Trusting others is hard for Najmah, but once she gets to know someone that is helping her, she can open up and trust that person. (BS-2) Najmah lost the only family left, that she knows well, so she has to make dangerous decisions in order to find her father and brother.
