2.3 Describe the procedures to follow in an event of a grievance
If an employee has a formal grievance relating to their employment they should put a complaint in writing to their manager. If the grievance is against the manager, address the complaint to an alternative manager. A manager will then invite the employee to a grievance meeting to discuss grievance, the employee has the right to be accompanied to this meeting by a trade union official or fellow employee. The employee must take all reasonable steps to attend this meeting.
Following the meeting the grievance will be responded to as soon as possible (within 5 working days) if it is not possible to respond within this time period the employee will be given an explanation for the delay and told when a response can be expected. The employee will be informed in writing of the decision on the grievance and notified of their right to appeal against that decision if they are not satisfied with it.
If the employee feels their grievance has not been resolved they can then appeal in writing to a more senior manager within five working days of the grievance decision. The more senior manager will arrange to hear the grievance at an appeal meeting. The more senior manager will then also respond to grievance within 5 working days, if it is not possible to respond within this time period the employee will be given an explanation for the delay and told when a response can be expected. This is the final stage and this decision will be final.

Agreed ways of working are set out in your workplaces policies and procedures which incorporate several legislations. These policies and procedures are in place to protect you, the children in your care and your employer.
3.1 Explain how your own role fits within the delivery of the service provided.
My role is to provide a safe and happy environment for the children. Maintaining routine and providing range of educational activities. Also to observe the children in the nursery and ensure their safety.
While other members of staff will have different roles/job descriptions my role is to work directly with the children.
3.2 Explain the effect of own role on service provision
My role is to care for the children in the setting, to provide the best possible environment for the children. To provide a secure, happy educational setting where the children are care well for, safe and educated through a variety of play activities covering all aspects of the EYFS. Giving the children the best possible start in life.
3.3 Describe how own role links into the wider sector
Through my training, Ofsted inspections and quality standards it is ensured that I meet the standards required of a nursery nurse.
3.4 Describe the main roles and responsibilities or representative bodies that influence the wider sector
The main roles of the Office for Standards in Education (Ofsted) inspect schools, childcare settings and the people who look after the children, to maintain a certain standard of education and care. They carry out regular inspections the write a report which is published.
Now think about your own personal progression and development within the work that you do:-
4.1 What are the different types of occupational opportunities that you could choose?
Nursery nurse
Pr-school teacher
Playgroup worker
Childminder
Nanny
(CU1516- 3.2), (CU1531-4.1),

Next steps - Directgov
(CU1516- 3.3),
4.3 Identify next steps within your career pathway
My next steps will be to continue to NVQ level 3 in childcare which would allow the opportunity for me to become a supervisor.
Continue constant training and courses available to me through my work. I could then go on to university and do a degree in childcare. I could then also study towards Early Years Professional Status
Now thinking about Early Years sector answer the following questions:-
5.1- Identify occasions where the public have raised concerns regarding issues within the sector
The case of Vanessa George taking indecent pictures on her mobile phone. November 2010, in a nursery in Plymouth. It was said that the nursery provided an ideal environment. This has raised safeguarding concerns. Some nurseries have brought in new policies as a result of this, for example mobile phones to be kept in office/staff room
5.2- Outline different viewpoints around issue of public concern relevant to your
sector
This case impacted the public’s viewpoints in several ways. Some people believed that there should be stricter measures put in place to safeguard children to prevent people like that being able to work with children, for settings to be stricter on leaving children alone with an adult and mobile phones being in the setting. Others believe that this case was a result of poor management of this particular setting, and that all measures that need to be in place are.
5.3- Describe how issues of public concern have altered public views of the sector
Cases like these make the public more aware of safeguarding of children and what protective measures are in place. It brings attention to the policies and procedures that are in place in childcare settings. Some believe these need to be stricter to prevent cases like these from happening. On the other hand some people are reassured by being more aware of the measures that are in place.
5.4- Describe recent changes in service delivery which have affected own area of work
Since this case there has been a new policy put in place in my setting that mobile phones are not allowed to be on and are to be kept in the staffroom at all times. Otherwise all measures that need to be in place are. No child will be alone with an adult at any time and all members of staff have regular CRB checks
