Task 1:
Describe the different classes of bacteria based on:
a. Cell wall composition
• :Gram negative .
• Gram positive.
b. Nutritional requirements :
• Autotroghs:take nutrition from carbon dioxide.
• Heterotrophs take the nutrition from organic carbon(carbs, lipids, protein)
• Prototroph: take nutrition from sunlight.
• Chemotrophic take nutrition from chemicals.
c. Oxygen requirement
• Aerobes : Microbes which can grow in the presences of O2
• Anaerobes : Microbes which can grow in the Absence of O2
• Facultative Microbes : Microbes which can grow in the presence of O2 or absence of O2
• Microaerophiles Required 3 – 15 %O2 …show more content…
* Bacterial infection is a proliferation of a harmful strain of bacteria on or inside the body. Bacteria can infect any area of the body.
* Infectious diseases are disorders caused by organisms — such as bacteria, viruses, fungi or parasites. Many organisms live in and on our bodies. They're normally harmless or even helpful, but under certain conditions, some organisms may cause disease.
-Describe the 6 components of ‘Chain of Infection’ with suitable example.
*Infectious agent: microorganism causes diseases such as bacteria, virus, paeasite and fungi.
* Reservoir: natural environment that the pathogen requires for survival such as water, food or human feces.
*Portal of exit. This link is needed for the pathogen to leave the reservoir for example blood, urinal track, respiratory track or body fluids.
*Mode of transmission. The pathogen can be transmitted either directly or indirectly for example as environmental surface or peace of medical equipment.
*portal of entry: the opening where the infectious disease enters such as mucus membrane, open wound, feeding tubes..etc.
-Mention 4 examples of infectious diseases caused by
a. Bacteria :
• Anthrax
• Cholera
• Sore
