Universal Children In The United States
1) The universal them I believe was that all the children were developing and being children. The environment and the way they were taken care of had an effect on their upbringing but ultimately all the children were able to develop gross motor skills. Additionally, all the children were being little kids they threw tantrums, laughed, played, and cried. They all had moms who cared for them.
2) I was amazed how the little boy who seemed to be in a tribe was able to crawl and walk on rocks and sticks without shoes. I thought about how in the United States children have special socks to aid them in walking but this little boy did not even have shoes. Ultimately he adjusted to his environment and was able to reach his crawling and walking milestone.

Annette Lareau’s book Unequal Childhoods is a compilation of her observational data of 12 children between the years of 1994 – 1995. Recently, a second version of her book was published in 2011 that included follow-up interviews with some of the selected children ten years after the study finished. The 12 children selected for her study were put into various categories to facilitate a diverse range of economic, racial, and cultural backgrounds that would allow her to try to make broad observations. Her categories also act as dividers for data tables to help readers make concrete examinations on the similarities and differences between all the children. However, Lareau talks about having a difficult time trying to create her 12 family sample,…

The idea that your imagination is a key determining factor in accepting your uncertain future is supported but also refuted in the short story On the Rainy River. The main character, Tim O'brien provides strong evidence for the strength of one's imagination through the visual representation he provides of the slaughterhouse where he works and the way he imagines disappointment and disgust those back in his home would feel. However, at the end of the story it becomes clear that regardless of one's imagination or will, the future is set in stone and the path you walk is already set in stone.…

I first watched this film two years ago when I saw it in the library DVD shelve. I found the concept of babies interesting since they are adorable and tiny, but watching it with a symbolic interaction perspective has given me an insight that I did not have the first time I watched it. Even though all the babies were born to different social environments and economic statuses, the parents wanted their child to be safe and provided what they perceived to be the best basic needs.…

The rights of children are being undermined by American civic laws. Children see a comfortable amount of protection from the government but several issues exist as a result of America still not ratifying The Convention on the Rights of the Child, meaning children are not being protected from abuse, malnutrition, and are not receiving basic health needs. one in four children in America go hungry everyday because of lack of food. This percentage of children is primarily of different ethnicity. A child must never go hungry no matter what ethnicity they are, America must protect their younger citizens (0-18 years of age) from going hungry. Abuse is something several children fear everyday with three million cases being reported, 10% being sexual…

We are surrounded by very affluent communities here on the San Francisco Peninsula, but there are still many children who find themselves in the foster care system due to abuse and/or neglect. Society turns its back on these kids in a variety of ways. The affluence many local people enjoy allows those who want to experience parenthood to have a biological child by in-vitro fertilization or hiring a surrogate mother. They would rather spend the money to have their own biological children than take in a child that many believe will become nothing but a detriment to society. Just because many foster children suffer emotional and psychological damage doesn’t mean they aren’t deserving of a loving home or capable of becoming contributing members…

One major theme is how kids react to a situation where they are alone with no adult or adults to lead them, tell them what to do and or tell them right from wrong.
