Many people feel it’s not fair that these "illegals" are receiving federal and state benefits that they don't deserve. When this child is born, the child automatically receives many benefits if he/she is an anchor baby. Their parent is illegal and cannot work and so they apply for food stamps and many other governmental programs. These anchor babies are a burden on schools, hospitals, taxpayers, and so on. "If there's abuse in the system where , pregnant women are coming in to have babies simply because they can do it, then there ought to be greater enforcement," Said President Bush "That's [the] legitimate side of this. The Child, Family and Service Act (CFCSA) documentation policy requires child welfare agencies to maintain documentation about assessments, actions taken and services provided for each child and family within established procedures and timeframes (Smith & Donovan, 2003). Social workers may be pulled into complicated battles between divorcing parents, child custody, or child abuse charges, which summon detailed documentation for someone in authority to use in decision-making (Leon & Pepe, 2010). Specially, “professionals in the child welfare system understand that if it is not written down, it is as if it never happened” (Mallon, Hess, & ebrary, 2005, 2010, p. 6). Citizenship is an excellent lesson that allows for discussions amongst peers on subjects that affect them all. It enables all pupils to express and share their own views and ideas both to the whole class and in small groups within a classroom that embraces a safe environment for learning. For example a discussion on bullying allows pupils to discuss behaviour deemed as bad and what behaviour is deemed a good. ‘Citizenship promotes safety especially through its emphasis on cohesion.’ (How does citizenship support the Every Child Matters outcomes, 2012), so for example if afterwards they can make an anti-bullying policy together, it brings the whole class as one and promotes the outcomes ‘Be Safe’ and ‘Be…

Teachers today have the challenging yet rewarding task of educating a classroom filled with diverse learners who represent a variety of backgrounds and cultures. Within these students lies a multitude of opinions and viewpoints about controversial topics that are imbedded in some of the content that is taught. Two of these content areas are history and social science. While avoiding controversy may be limited, what is not is the ability to teach controversial issues in the classroom. “Addressing Current Controversial Issues through the Social Studies Curriculum: Making Social Studies Come Alive” by Obed Dube (2009) explores the various ways that teachers can address controversial issues.
