Unknown Soldier
I believe that getting the chance to lay a wreath at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier in Arlington Cemetery would be a tremendous honor. Guarding the tomb is one of the highest military honors, but I also think it is a great honor to get to represent your school to remember those who have lost their lives.
One major reason I want to lay the wreath is because I have several family members that have been in the military. Fortunately, I have been lucky to have my family come home to me alive and known. My Uncle served his terms in the Air Force, Great Uncle served in Vietnam building and repairing bridges, my Grandpa was drafted into the army, and my Great Grandpa served in World War II where he was awarded the Purple Heart. My family has served their time and now I think it is my time to serve to those who have fallen.
Another reason this means so much to me is because I feel like I need to honor those who have fallen because they died to save

I show school spirit in many ways. I am in Student Council, Yearbook Club, Pep Club, and I am in cross country, track and swim. I try to go to all the home sporting events such as football, basketball, and baseball and try to make it to as many away games as I can. I participate in all the hallway decorating contests and I recently represented my school in the pep sessions. I am a straight A student and last year I earned the music, health, Presidential, and Principal awards at the honors banquet. I am also active in church. I go to religion every week and I am currently trying to be able to go on the mission trip coming up later this year. I participate in the math and English bowls and I am in all the honors classes. I think all of this shows good school spirit and that I am a good representative of my

In WW2, the soldiers had a hard, short life. It’s said you can track down the lifespan of a soldier to the minute. While reaserching i found out that the soldiers of the war had several tools and kits that aided them on the battlefield. One such set of tools out of many was the basic, which who had carried the classic M-1 rifle, a capable acurrate bolt-action rifle capable of disabling nearly anyone, minus aircraft and vehicles. Another weapon that was used during the war was the .50 cal. HMG, which had high fire rates, able to penetrate vehicles plus completly capable of shooting down aircraft…

In the novel The Things They Carried the young soldiers are afraid of seeming weak. O’ Brien didn’t want to go to war. He was even considering fleeing to Canada. O’ Brien eventually decided to go because he was afraid of seeming like a coward to his family and town. He went to war out of fear of appearing weak to his peers. He believed it would be shameful if he didn’t go to the war. The soldiers in the novel were cautious to show any sign of fear. They were in an unpredictable and strange environment for an unknown cause, for most of them. They were young and proud and the last thing the tough, ammunition charged soldiers, wanted is to show how afraid they were.…

It was an amazing feeling to give to the community in that way. I was selected as the master of ceremony for our yearly Veterans Day Assembly this year also. It was an honor to be able to lead the assembly and make sure that the veterans were honored for their true acts of bravery. Also through National Honor Society, I planned a Red Out at a basketball game, a Cardiac Ball, and a 3-on-3 tournament in order to spread awareness and collect donations for the American Heart Association. We ended up raising 2,000 dollars for such a great cause!…

For my conceptual memorial I decided to pay a homage to both the fallen American soldiers in Vietnam, and the American citizens back on the homefront promoting peace and an end to the war. During the war, America had been involved in direct combat from 1961 all through till their defeat in 1975. During this time of direct-involvement over 50,000 troops met their end, and back home an outpour of emotion and sorrow was displayed. American citizens were no longer in approval of the war, and so began an era of the promotion of peace and love. Without this intense amount of protest by “hippies” and the heavy feel of anti-American involvement in the war, it is possible that many more American lives could have been lost. It is this promotion of peace…

We fight because we believe. Not that war is good, but that sometimes it is necessary. Our soldiers fight and die not for the glory of war, but for the prize of freedom and the ideologies that our country stands for. So great, were these ideologies, that men and women have bravely fought to defend them. OUR COUNTRY HAS FACED MANY TESTS OF COURAGE since its birth. Our answer to tests can be found in cemeteries from the islands of the Pacific to the coast of northern France. You can visit the hills in Arlington National Cemetery where markers record the names of more than 280,000 men and women. Each one was once or still is the most important person in someone's life. WITH EACH LOSS IN WAR, the world is changed forever for the family and friends left behind. IT IS UP TO US TO GIVE MEANING FOR THEIR SACRIFICE and de devoted to those principles for which these heroic citizens gave their lives. There is NO GREATER LOVE than to give your life for another. Our fallen comrades have demonstrated that love, and that my friends, is what Memorial Day is all about. FOR YOU TOMORROW, THEY SACRIFICED THEIR…

As a college student in the early 1960s Buffy Sainte-Marie became known as a writer of protest songs and love songs. But unknown to most of the mainstream public, she was even then spending as much time around the drum at a small Indian reserve in Canada as she was in front of a microphone on the concert stages of the world. Having written "Universal Soldier", one of the anthems of the 60s peace movement, she was nonetheless absent from the big mass protest marches, in favor of shedding her light on Indian rights and environmental issues, which she still does today.…

Our armed forces exist solely to ensure our nation is safe, so that each and every one of us can sleep soundly at night, knowing we have 'guardians at the gate.'” We must never forget the lives that were taken while protecting our country. Having the privilege to lay the wreath on the Tomb of the Unknown would touch me on a personal level. I have a great-great uncle who served in Vietnam. I remember hearing stories of how his mother and sister were worried sick that he wouldn’t make it home. Thankfully, he arrived home safely. On the other hand, somewhere there was a mother who will never know what happened to her son. A mother who never got to lay her little boy to rest. A wife that never got to grow old with her husband. Maybe even a little girl who was never able to have her daddy walk her down the aisle. Although the identities of these men are unknown, they all have a different story. I could never imagine what it would be like to never truly know what happened to your father, son, or brother. It brings tears to my eyes thinking about those families who faced that type of situation. If I were able to lay the wreath on the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier, it would become my greatest responsibility. I would forever remember the day that I was able to honor those who fought for our…

    Bridge Role Model

No matter how old we get we find that we always carry someone in our hearts that we revere. This is also true for high school students. To me, one group of people I admire are the Bridge Students. Every year one group of students gets chosen and exceed the expectations of them and do things that they are most likely the first in their families to do; these kids are role models. I have served as a role model in a many ways, as a girl scout, as a mentor, as an officer of multiple clubs, but only one way could make my heart feel as good as probably the humblest of all of my role model experiences, being a big sister. In my family were all very close and I may only have one sibling but I also have three cousins that call me their big sister. These kids for a long time were the reason I got up every day. I’ve always done my best to help them grow up right and making sure that they always knew I loved them. As a bridge student obviously I wouldn’t have the same kind of relationship with the summer academy students as I do with my family but I will care about them and their well-being the same as I would my family.…
