Unreasonable Emotion
On Sam’s 5 years old birthday, Dad and Mum bring him to his favorite place to have celebration, which is Ocean Park. As usual, they passed the subway near their home and arrived Ocean Park in just half an hour. Once they arrived, the weather was fine, just a bit cloudy. However, after few hours, it started to rain. Sam’s family decided to have a ride on the cable car. At first, Sam enjoyed riding on it so much as he refused to stay in mother’s arms. He kept on asking questions about whatever he saw from the window, the hills, the trees, the sea and etc... Suddenly, an announcement telling that was an accidentally breakdown due to the bad weather and the cable cars needed to stop temporarily. After half an hour stopped in the air, Sam was frightened, impatient; he screamed, and started to cry seriously and uncontrollable. Unfortunately, the cable cars still stopped for an hour until it backed to normal.
After this incident, Sam’s mum discovered that Sam was frightened to stay in any closed spaces. He didn’t sleep but only keep on crying when mum closed the room door. He was not willing to go washroom alone although he can do it since four years old. He showed nervous when passing the subway near their home. He refused to go into the elevator. If his parents bring him into it, he screamed until the door opened. He even felt frightened when his mum brought him on a taxi. His parents tried to comfort him but he still kept on shouting, screaming and crying. He is so uncontrollable that makes his parents really confused.

To explain Sam’s unreasonable emotion, we can use the concepts of classical conditioning. Before conditioning, cable car accident is an unconditioned stimulus (UCS) that produced frightened and impatient feeling and uncontrollable responses like screaming and crying seriously. A closed space initially was a neutral stimulus (NS) which cause no special response.
During conditioning, closed space, which is the former neutral stimulus (NS), became

Albert is a nine month old boy who was subject to emotional testing. He went through a series of pretesting and was eventually introduced to a white rat. Albert initially had no fear of the rat but every time he would reach out to touch it he heard the sound of a hammer hitting a steel bar. The tests eventually led to the following results: First they introduced the banging of the steel bar (unconditioned stimuli) causing fear (unconditioned response) in Albert. They then introduced a white rat to Albert who initially had no fear of the rat. Every time Albert reached out to touch the rat the loud banging was heard, which eventually resulted in Albert being afraid to touch the rat. Finally they introduced just the rat (conditioned stimulus) without the loud banging still caused fear (conditioned response) in Albert.…

Have you walked into the pet store and went to buy pet treats? Which one stands out the most? Most would see the yellow bag of Beggin Strip. Beggin strips has a very humorous form of classical conditioning in there commercial. It starts out with the dog lying on the bed, he hears the bag open. The smell travels up the stairs, across the street to the neighbor’s dog. The smell even traveled to Paris, France where French poodle was standing by the Eiffel Tower. Once the dog smells the treats he takes off running down the stairs where he sees the women in the kitchen. As the dog continues running downstairs he saying repeatedly “bacon.” The women proceeds to say “who wants Beggin strips”, the dog very hyper, thinks “me, me, me, I would get it myself but I don’t have thumbs.” The lovely lady kneels down and give him one while she rubbing and petting him. The neutral stimulus in this commercial is when the bag opens and the graphic of the smell. This is the neutral stimulus considering the smell of treat bacon treats has no effect. A dog can smell several different things and won’t bring out any response. The unconditioned stimulus is the treats due to the fact that treats are a dog favorite, when the dog knows they are getting a doggy treat. It’s gets real excited and starts begging. This brings out the conditioned response when compared with the conditioned stimulus the smell brings out the begging and excitement the dog is doing in the commercial. Excitement does not have to be previously learned nor taught. This also is unconditioned response. When the neutral stimulus is compared with the treats you get the conditioned response, when learning the smell of the treats will eventually overtime bring out the excitement and the begging the dog is doing.…

Rose often demonstrates throughout the course of ‘Twelve Angry Men’ that reason needs to overrule emotion if important decisions need to be made, however some emotion is proven to be good for the discussion of the court case. The Jurors own prejudice often cloud their judgment and reason is the only way a decision can be reached fairly. Rose demonstrates through the characterization of several Jurors that people should care about the case, and anger can sometimes be a good motivator although it has its difficulties.…

This illustrates the concept of classical conditioning, where the neutral stimulus, the ding of the intercom, was paired with the anticipatory and actual nausea that surrounded eating, to make me feel sick at the sound of the intercom as opposed to the unconditioned stimulus of eating. The concept of classical conditioning and its four components is something that we discussed in class as a part of the process of learning.…

The happiest day of Alex’s childhood was when he received so many N64 games for his Nintendo 64. He said, “When I saw my games, I almost blacked out and died.” I couldn’t help but laugh at his statement. The saddest day of his childhood was when he was in preschool and his class would count up to the 100th day of school. On the 100th day, they were supposed to have a party. Well on the day of the party, his mom didn’t let him go to school and in stead he stayed at his great grandmother’s house, which in fact was his least favorite place to be. His first experience with death is finding out that his cousin passed away. Alex said, “I didn’t really know what I felt or how to feel. I really didn’t have a close relationship with my cousin and even though he was older than me, I feel as if…

After breakfast, the parents went out on the lake to have “adult time.” So my cousins and I decided to go riding back in the woods. Chelsea and I were doing wheelies on the four-wheelers. Wheelies are so fun; I get the feeling of butterflies in my stomach every time I do them. Jessica was riding her four-wheeler backwards. Johnathan was doing tricks on his dirt bike. We were doing all kinds of tricks and cool things. We even had races to see who could go the fastest. Then we found a spot in the dirt that was really wet. We saw that is was safe, so we started playing around in it. We did what most people call “mudding.” We all had a blast until Johnathan flooded his engine, and Chelsea started complaining about having mud all over her. So they decided to go home and let Jessica and I keep riding.…
