Supply chain management part 1
Oracle Apps Tutorial: Changes in R12.2 for Supply Chain Management (Part 1)
On December 5, 2013, in Oracle Cost Management, Oracle E-Business Suite, Oracle Inventory, Oracle R12, Oracle R12 Upgrade, Oracle Supply Chain Management, by ssutphin
Unlike the other product families (Financials, Projects, HR), Supply Chain Management has been busy with enhancements in the R12.2 release. Because Order Management has a lot of changes, I’m dividing my discussion into two posts. This first post will cover the changes to Advance Pricing, Electronic Kanban (new product), Inventory, Sales Contracts, and Service Contracts. In a later post I will talk about the changes in Order Management.
In addition to the R12.2 changes, Oracle integrated the Supply Chain Management modules into its E-Commerce Product Endeca. Inventory, Cost Management, Install Base, Discrete Manufacturing, and Process Manufacturing can use Endeca’s in memory database for quicker searches.
Changes to Advance Pricing Module in R12.2 Service Item Support in Promotional Modifiers
To support the automatic bundling of services with a product (such as 1 year free support with your purchase of a specific product), Oracle Advance Pricing can now (in R12.2) add a service item automatically. This feature will increase your order accuracy because the person entering the order will not have to remember that the service is bundled with the product. This is especially helpful it the inclusive of the service is part of a specific promotion.
To use this feature, you need to use the service item as a get product in the promotional modifier setup.
Non-Continuous Price Breaks
Companies use non-continuous price breaks to incentivize customers to purchase products in quantities that are economically advantageous to you. Before R12.2 the “Value From” field in the Price Breaks form must start with 0 and there can not be gaps between breaks. In R12.2, you can start your price

Supply chain management is the coordination of the processes and functions within a business, adopted by most companies in the UK in the late 1990’s. It deals with the internal and external factors that, when dealt with correctly and systematically, can determine a businesses success or failure. A supply chain is the network of activities that delivers a finished product service to the customer. By definition, supply chain management (SCM) is “the management of the flows of materials from suppliers to customers in order to reduce overall cost and increase responsiveness to the customers” (Reid & Sanders). SCM entails the co-ordination of the movement of good through the supply chain from suppliers to manufacturers to distributors to the final customer. The main aim of SCM is to maximise the efficiency of any given process being carried out by a company; by doing this it is allowing them to try to cut their costs and hopefully keep satisfying their customers’ needs, while at the same time maintaining their competitive position within their market. Supply chain management is seen as more of an “open system” in contrast to the traditional system used by the majority of companies just 20 years ago. The new “open system” allows room for change which is greatly needed with the current financial instability of the economy.…

The supply management organization was well managed and staffed with seasoned, well-educated professionals (for the time period). During the late 1970s, the U.S. government began addressing the air pollution issue by establishing vehicle emissions standards and corporate average fuel consumption targets for vehicles sold in the United States. The auto industry was faced with major technical problems. The U.S. government-mandated standards could not be achieved with available technology. These…

A standardised and reusable IT infrastructure lies at the heart of its international growth. Getting to grips with its global organisation from a central and local perspective has characterised much of the IT investment building on its infrastructure goals. For example, the retailer has expanded its use of supplier management software to reduce supplier setup lead times. Having originally used the software to accelerate the implementation of its new Oracle 11i procure-to-pay and financial back office systems for goods and services not for resale, it is now using the software to streamline its overall supplier management.…
