V For Vendetta Themes
Literature is a broad term that is hard to define because there are no specific guidelines to determine it. “Some kinds of fiction are literature and some are not; some literature is fictional and some is not; some literature is verbally self-regarding, while some highly-wrought rhetoric is not literature” (Eagleton 9). Literature can even vary from person to person depending on their opinion. The graphic novel, V for Vendetta, by Alan Moore, should also be considered literature due to its real-world themes, complex plot, and its ability to influence the audience. Alan Moore weaves many real-world themes throughout the story in V for Vendetta. It follows the lives of several people, but mainly V. Throughout the book the audience learns

One of the subjects effectively tackled in the movie is that of politics and/or governance. V’s mission is to bring down the unjust government by causing disturbance and destruction. Apart from using his destructive means, he uses broadcast messages to highlight the ills of the system and urges people to ‘free’ themselves from injustices. But V also appears to be driven by the motive of revenge against the system for wrongs done to him. It is very interesting how the issues featured in the film reflect the issues people face in real life. The film highlights corruption in government, unfair justice system, harassment from state agents and the way governments use lies to manipulate the…

Finding the definition of a word is very simple. Typically, it would be beneficial to pull out a dictionary and find the textbook definition. This is not the case for the word literature. Although it can be found, pinpointing a concrete definition is nearly impossible. But, one characteristic that literature must have is the ability to stand the tests of time. When examining A Secret Sorrow by Karen Van der Zee and A Sorrowful Woman by Gail Godwin, it is easy to conclude that the latter is a true piece of literature. This can be seen by comparing the characters, symbolism, and plotline of both stories.…

The definition of literature is not easy to concretely decide upon, and deciding if a piece of work is literature is harder to conclude when there is no concrete definition of the category. Various people have differing opinions on what makes literature literature: it may be believed that literature consists of the Classics (Shakespeare, Homer, Sophocles, etc.), and it may also be believed that literature consists of what students are forced to read while in school (The Catcher in the Rye, The Crucible, The Scarlet Letter, etc.). Though it is hard to categorize what does and what does not fall under the literature umbrella as a whole, it is more difficult to define the characteristics of literature, even if it is supposed to help ease the process…

Literature, from my perspective, is a way to get people to think. Literature can be used as a form of expressio, that humans can relate to. Authors of Literature can make the reader come to realizations that otherwise would not have been thought of. Greek plays depicted and explained their myths. What I like about literature is that it brings up ideas, questions and thoughts that you would never have experienced in the first place. It educates you in a sense. Some pieces of literature you might relate to, those that you don’t, they might educate you and bring you new ideas.…

-V for Vendetta was a work of major cultural importance for over a decade before the 2005 film adaption helped spread the messages and themes of the film worldwide. Originally in publication from March 1982 through May 1989, V for Vendetta is the brainchild of Alan Moore, who is widely considered to be one of the greatest comic book writers of all time. The film centers on V, a terrorist out to destroy the fascist government of dystopian future England. While the film itself makes many important points about freedom, liberty, individual choice, and the damage totalitarian control does to them, what makes this film remarkably relatable to the current cultural and political atmosphere of the world, American in particular, is its ability to unite…
