Emergency planning includes the key areas involved in addressing any threat or hazard: prevention, protection, response, recovery, and mitigation. It is a very important to businesses, the community, and the government to know what to do before the start of a hazard, threat, or disaster. Integrating the key areas as part of the overall planning effort allows jurisdictions to produce an effective EOP(Emergency Operations Plan) and advance overall preparedness. The planning process helps creates the structure and help the community be prepared. It also help the planners determine how they will respond and recovery in the event of a disaster, hazard, or threat.
The importance and value in Emergency Planning for a local jurisdiction is to save lives and property. The initial response is critical in an emergency, and it is at the community level that initial response takes place. So it is the community that has to prepare the emergency plan and execute it. The common goal is to reduce the effects caused by emergencies, threats, and hazards. It is important for the local jurisdiction to be able to know how to identify potential hazards or threats and be able to find the resources needed when the time come without having to do a lot of
searching.
Another importance of Emergency planning is being able to have a way available to let the residents know of impending dangers and what they should do to help themselves. It is very important to keep the community informed and educated about the plan in case of a disaster, hazard, or threat would happen.
Obviously it would be nice to have someone important to make sure that someone be held somehow liable for making sure all actions are taken in accordance with the laws in order to protect people and there property from emergencies, hazards, and disasters. Also the value in Emergency planning for a local jurisdiction is being able to monitor hazards, vulnerability, and sustain the planning process. This important to keep up with the funds that comes in and goes out as resources for the community.
