In class, we discussed many of the different ways to take notes. Of each method that was presented, the outline method is most useful to me. I generally use the outline method of notetaking because it groups information together,
showing how details are related to the big idea. It is also very organized to take notes this way because it does not just list several random facts. Most of my professors structure their powerpoints during lectures in an outline format. Thus, it is very easy to just copy down the notes in the same way that they present them on the powerpoint.
Probably the most useful way for me to retain information is to be quizzed on it. Recalling information is one of the study tips that works best for kinesthetic learners. When I practice recalling information, it not only allows me to review the notes, but also to figure out what I already know and what I need to study more. Since my brother and I are in most of the same classes, we quiz each other often when we are studying. Another strategy that I will implement when studying is to make sure that I do not sit still for a long time. I will take short breaks while I study that involve getting up and moving around so I can focus better when I study. Lastly, when taking notes, I record the examples that the professor uses to explain the concept. This is useful to me because it allows me to associate the things I learn with real examples. By doing this, I can better understand the concepts that my professors teach.
