In the article Should Candy and Soda be Banned from Schools,Tom Vilsack suggest that if we reform our school meals and what is sold in schools vending machines our children will live a healthier lifestyle. Vilsack explains how removing unhealthy options will help our children avoid certain cancers and diseases. When Vilsack states that the government should take action as if we continue on this path many of our children can live a lifestyle with a lot of lifelong struggles. While J.Justin Wilson who opposes banning candies and sodas in school strongly argues that the student should be able to make their own decisions and that allowing the government to interfere will destroy personal responsibility. Wilson also argues that if the student’s are…
There are some economic issues that come with these new menus in the school. Some parents will worry that their children won’t be eating at all if there isn’t food that they like to eat. While at the same time some of the healthier options cost a little bit more to buy and serve to our students so some people may be concerned about budget issues within local school districts. But in all reality our state school board is just trying to improve the health of our children so they have a better chance at being healthy throughout the rest of their lives, compared to many people suffering daily from different health issues.…
The article titled, “Fremont High School”, shows another example of how students are treated unequally due to the American government. It states how the many faults in a school all gather together to greatly affect your education and learning abilities. “Some of the classrooms “do not have air-conditioning”, so that students become “red-faced and unable to concentrate” during “the extreme heat of summer.”” (708). this is stated by the article to show the unacceptable learning environment these students have to deal with. If the “United” States would fund the school for a proper learning environment, then they can be considered equal. Until then these students are forced to stay in these inappropriately heated classrooms and have to focus on school work while dripping in sweat from attacking heat waves. The use of the restroom also comes into a big aspect for these students. “Fremont High School, as court papers documents, has “15 fewer bathrooms than the law requires.” Of the limited number of bathrooms that are working in the school, “only one or two…are open and unlocked for girls to use.” Long lines of girls are “waiting to use the bathrooms.”” (707). A perfect statement showing that even the government is breaking the law by not providing a legal amount of restrooms to these students. These students attend this school for a time of eight hours a day and some end up not using the restroom at all. Obviously people feel extremely uncomfortable when needing to use the restroom, on top of this discomfort they would still have to attempt to try and learn and achieve an education. Most, if not all, of these students are unable to concentrate while feeling the need to relieve themselves. This again all leads to the inequality these students have to deal with. Education is a very important value for people to have. People can take…
Imagine that you were sitting in a meeting or in different meetings all day and you only have one chance to eat in between meetings? As an adult it might be different for you, but as a teenager we need more food in our bodies as we grow. How are we supposed to pay attention in class if all we can think about food and candy? That’s what I am going to talk to you about in this letter, why pop and candy machines should be allowed in schools. As a growing teenage girl, I believe that snack and pop machines should be allowed in schools.…
Why not bring back the healthy snacks? School vending machines bring many benefits into consideration. Think about the amount of money these snack machines can make. Half the profit can go into good charities if it’s thought well. It can also help to purchase any supplies, material the school would need. We should have vending machines because students would then have to take responsibility in spending their money wisely, which will then give them help for managing their future finances.…
What will happen if they make that a law in all the 50 states, which will be terrible. That will mean that they are trying to overpower people's opinion. How does the government know that this banning on sodas and candy machine is going to work? Are they going to weigh every person in New York every week or something? No, they can't do that is impossible, insane, and irrational. I disagree with the government.…
I am currently a student at Delphos Jefferson Senior High School, and we recently read Fast Food Nation by Eric Schlosser in our senior English class. It is a nonfiction novel that discusses the dark side of American fast food. As we’ve been reading, I’ve realized that a large amount of students at Jefferson Senior High drink soda purchased at school-offered vending machines. While these students are young adults and can make their own health related decisions, our responsibility as a school is to ensure that students receive healthy treatment. I understand that soda machines offered in our school are under the circumstances of corporate advertising; a practice that grants our school extra money towards general funds.…
If you take away the food that most students enjoy and replace them with healthier and potentially a less favored meal it would be a ludicrous decision, first they wouldn't enjoy the meal and they would not want to buy something they don't want. If more than half of one lunch period buys a pizza the day the cafeteria serves the pizza meal, that would mean it is a popular dish and without a doubt this would mean its a student favorite. Take away that meal and you have a large portion of the schools kids left with discontent and possibly stripped of the willingness to buy lunch. lunches are only nutritional if the kids actually eat them, thus meaning the nutritional choice could not only be a huge impact on children's attitudes but their nutrition, the very thing this change is meant to benefit with. There are numeros healthy choices on the menu to begin with for the students who don't want the…
Junk food is a major cause of childhood obesity. Writer Bob notes that today, about one in three American kids and teens is overweight or obese, nearly triple the rate in 1963 (Bob, 1). The bad food offered in public schools contributes to this unacceptable problem. A single 12-ounce can of soda has as much as 13 teaspoons of sugar in the form of high-fructose corn syrup. Many of these sodas are available to kids in school at low prices as well as many other completely unhealthy foods like chips and cookies Due to the lack of fresh and flavorful food, many students will choose to buy the cheap junk food offered instead. If we could stock vending machines and cafeterias with healthier foods, it would definitely make a dent in the childhood obesity rate.…

School administrators and student organizations themselves have argued that food bans on snacks and sodas would…
Students that eat unhealthy foods at home could be very beneficial to the regulations because they would be having grains fruits and vegetables at school and they would balance a healthier diet , especially with low-income families. Another, anonymous user stated a very important opinion , “First of all, it's not that ridiculous for a school to require children to eat fruits and vegetables. The processed foods that poison our bodies are not healthy! It's that simple! Teaching children to eat healthy food is in no way detrimental.…
It is safe to say that students want to have all eating options accessible at their fingertips. By taking out vending machines, and fast food spots, students will be outraged. In the article “Fast Food and Soft Drink Corporations Should Be Banned From Public Schools”, we can see that it doesn’t work. When students are given limited options, they will seek other resources regardless if they are not available to them on campus. If you were to ban this, then students would just go to other schools, which would definitely lower the enrolment rate. Once this happens, then you will need to seek other ways to make students pay. This can all be avoided if we just allow students to be able to eat and drink what they want…
As I have stated, the government spends approximately eleven billion dollars on schools across the country solely for the lunch program. Schools get only a portion of that money and can only buy certain amounts of healthy, yet cheap foods, Which is one of the reasons why school food tastes bad. However there are plenty of ways to avoid this problem by saving money and moving the money spent on less necessary concerns, such as new sports equipment. I believe that the school’s money should mostly be spent on food because of how important it is. Some students could be homeless or very poor, eating unbearable school lunches. The best schools could give them is free high quality food. Every other need from schools can be met with fundraisers and community…
