What a veteran means to me is someone who is brave ,strong, and courageous. I have a few veterans in my family. They have been through alot. They have spent time away from their hometown in different states that they have been stationed at. It is hard having them away, but it is even harder for them. Let me tell you about my perspective on things. A veteran is someone who was very brave. Going to war comes with the fear of death or getting severely injured. Veterans , of course , were scared at first , it is a given. They had to be brave for everyone else involved in their going away. They also had to be brave for themselves. Veterans not always had to be physically strong. They had to be very mentally and emotionally strong. They had to be mentally strong because I see some people that have been in war come out with post traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). They have to mentally prepare themselves for the big event. PTSD is caused when your brain can not recover from a serious or fatal event. Thirty percent of the time , veterans experience PTSD in their lifetime. Some war veterans get easily scared of loud noises and they are constantly on guard at all times. They feel as if they are still in the situation they were once in. They have angry outburst and sometimes they consider harming themselves or even others. Veterans are very strong when it comes to these situations. Veterans were also emotionally strong. They missed lots of family time due to war. Missing holidays with the family is most of the time a big deal. In my family , family time means a lot to us They had to bear the hurt of being left out during holidays , birthdays , and family gatherings. Saddest of all , some missed the birth of family members , and even the birth of their own children. Some of the veterans who served our country did not get to see their own children until they were toddlers or older. To me that stands out the most as being
