As an everyday citizen of America, we all have the same responsibilities. At the age of 18 citizens are given the right to vote. It is important for the people to give their opinion on how they think the government should run, and let their voice be heard. Jury duty is a shared American tradition. It connects people across class and race and teaches values of participation, equality, and deliberation. The right to be a juror is one of the fundamental rights guaranteed to all eligible citizens. Volunteering is also a very important responsibility of an American citizen. Volunteering helps one gain experience and makes them feel better about themselves as an individual. It not only helps the person themselves, however, it help the community and citizens in need.
Being a role model is also something people should do for the younger generations.
By following and respecting the laws it makes a good community, and teaches the children who look up to one to do the same. Also, taking responsibility for one's actions and duties is key to shaping a good community. One of the most important aspects of being an American citizen is to support and defend our constitution. Our veterans fought and risked their lives for us to have the rights we have today in which are listed in the US constitution. It is important to not only value and appreciate them but to not abuse them. Some may tend to take advantage and/or abuse the rights that are given to us. For example, our right to freedom of speech is one of the most common rights abused. While freedom of speech gives us the right to verbally express how we feel, it does not give us the right to abuse and abuse other people. Another example of one abusing our rights is illegally owning a
gun.
Overall, I feel that it is my responsibility to America, as well as others, is to honor all that our veterans have done for our country. To do this we need to keep up with our responsibilities as Americans, and value the rights in which were given to us. Also, anytime we see or noticed a veteran we need to thank them and let them know how much we value and respect them for all they have done for our country.
