For a community service project, l decided to explore and learn about the vision activities. These activities were used to help the students improve their fundamental visual skills and abilities, so they could learn better in school. English was my second language, so I understood the struggle of reading and Writing. Therefore I'm glad to be able to help students in the community that was having trouble in learning. Throughout my project, I learned how certain vision therapy (activities) is a way to treat eye ailments and some learning disorders through a series of eye exercises. I learned how to alter the student's processes or interpretations of visual information. Although it was challenging to juggle between school and my job to go to vision club to work with students, I discovered some vision activities and games on iPads that would help elementary students with their eye coordination. I would walk through the process of learning the activities and directions on how the activities work to the students and teachers. I have met interesting students and teachers whom I may not have known otherwise because of my project experience. I am proud knowing that I can help students with their success in school and benefitting the community. My mind was ignited by a love of science and medicine, and reliant on the power of community and deep respect and appreciation for healing. I have found that I gain a lot of benefits from helping others--both academically and emotionally--from volunteering my time to make the community and the world a better place. So I've got seven classes a day per week, with extracurricular activities, plus 3-5 hours of work per day during the school week, volunteering 2-3 hours a week, and on top of that with nightly battles with homework.
