Walter Elias Disney>
Disney was born on December 5, 1901, in Chicago.
In 1917, Disney began his freshman year at McKinley High School and took night courses at the Chicago Art Institute. He became the cartoonist for the school newspaper, drawing patriotic topics and focusing on World War I. He dropped out of high school at the age of sixteen to join the army. But was rejected for being under aged.
Walt moved back to Kansas City to begin his artistic career. Nobody wanted to hire him as either an artist or actor but soon later. At Pesmen- Rubin Art Studio he met cartoonist Ubbe Iwerks they decided to start their own commercial company together.
Not being very successful they got a job at the Kansas City Film Ad Company. Where he made commercials based on cutout animations, Disney became interested in animation, and decided to become an animator. Walt eventually decided to open his own animation business.
Disney’s cartoons became popular in the Kansas City area. He was able to open his own studio called Laugh-O-Gram.
They went bankrupt. And Disney and his brother earned money and set up their own cartoon studio in Holly Wood, California. They created the Alice Comedies, which were a series of animated cartoons. A New York distributor Margaret Winkler wrote to Disney and wanted to start a distribution deal with him. Walt moved back to Kansas City to begin his artistic career.
