What was the most valuable part of the readings and study material for you this week?
After watching the YouTube video “Taking Root the Vision of Wangari Maathai” and going through the Maathai readings, it made me realise how much I have to be grateful for. Wangari and the other women had nothing, but they fought for what they believed in- even though women were looked down upon in Kenya at that time, that did not stop her/them from continuing with her/their goal. This made it very difficult to make something of yourself since you have to fight for it. I had the privilege of growing up in a home where there were no financial issues- everything was made easy since I just got everything that I asked for. I grew up in a non-sexist country so there is no need to fight for anything I want to do since I do not have to prove myself to anyone (men). I took everything for granted and stopped appreciating things that came my way. I see now that there are so many people across the world that are grateful for receiving one meal a day, where I just go to the closest take away restaurant and I am sorted. I must thank God each day for what I have, I must not take it for granted. Who knows, anything could happen- tomorrow I could wake up with nothing. What
