Justified or Unjustified
Mexico wanted to steal America’s land that they have won. Mexico was crossing American borders, and some Mexican soldiers killed sixteen Americans. Mexico crossed the line with America and the United States decided to go to war with Mexico. America has too little land for too many people, and America had already won Texas. Mexico denied Texas’s independence and wants Texas back. America had decided to go to war because the belief to fulfill Manifest Destiny, it needs to protect it’s borders, and because Texas now belongs to America. America is ready for the war drums to commence. The war with Mexico was in 1846 to 1848 at Texas. Polk was just elected president and had some ideas of what he wanted to do; he wanted to go to war with Mexico. There were many events that lead up to it but the main ones were that Mexico was trying to take back Texas, Mexico was invading America, and Mexico has killed sixteen Americans on American land. …show more content…
In the Background essay is states “Congress reversed itself and voted to annex Texas” (Roden 317). Annexing a state means that a country wants to have another country but the other country has to agree therefore Texas is now a part of the United States. In Doc B it states “Texas was determined… to annex herself to our Union”. That quote shows that Texas wanted to become part of the United States. Also in Doc A it states “It is time for opposition to the Annexation of Texas to cease… Texas is now ours… Let their reception into the “family” be frank, kindly, and cheerful”. That quote meant that everyone (except for Mexico) was happy that Texas was now a part of America.
