I really liked many things in the book but probably my favorite was the characters. Out of all the characters, my
favorite was probably the sister. Her name Is Abbey Underwood. I like her a lot because she reminds me of my younger sister. They are both sneaky, fearless, and noisy. There are many examples of Abbeys traits in the story. One example of Abbey being Sneaky, is when she secretly filmed Dust Muleman, the owner of the ship, committing a crime. She is also very fearless. She never backs down from a challenge and will do anything to get the job done. One example is when she jumped out the house window at night. She knew she might get caught but she did to help catch dusty. The last characteristic is that she is noisy. In many cases she yells at Noah and others.
Another Reason why I liked the book was because of the author. Carl Hiaasen is one of, if not my favorite author. I love his writing. He writes in a way that keeps the mystery of the next page hidden. He also makes things so understandable and realistic. This book was no exception. I had no Idea what going to come while reading this book. I would keep guessing about what’s going to come and kept getting it wrong. This kind of writing makes the book much more enjoyable. Books where the ending is obvious and predictable aren’t nearly as fun. Another reason why I love Carl Hiaasen's writing is the realism. The setting in his books are always in Florida and always very realistic. He makes settings that are very imaginable. For example, in this book, the ship is situated in a basin. This area has a nice lake, trees, grass, benches. It is just like a pond you would hile in. Also, the prison where Noah’s dad, Paine Underwood, is incarcerated in. When Noah comes to visit in chapter one, everything that happens would happen in a typical prison. One example of the prison being realistic is when it says, “The deputy told me to empty my pockets: two quarters, a penny, a stick of bubble gum, and a roll of tape for my skateboard.” (Page 1). This is exactly what would happen if you visit a real prison. This is the kind of realism that I enjoy about Carl Hiaasen.
In conclusion, I really cherished reading this book. It was really interesting to read about the environmental struggles occurring in Florida. In the book, Noah And Abbey meet many people that help them in their journey to expose Dusty Muleman. If you want to know if they succeed, if Noah’s dad get’s out of prison, and what happens to dusty Muleman, then I would advise to read Flush By Carl Hiaasen. If you want advice from me on what books to read, this one would be one of the first I would think about.
