Structurally, the innovation of using slabs to cover the lower part of the interior walls protects the mud brick from moisture and wears, reinforcing the perpetualness of the king’s reign of the Kingdom.2 But the slabs also served a communicative and decorative purpose, the durable surface for the relief decoration. Originally all the reliefs painted with bright colors, which made the relief vibrant. But very few of the pigments survived now due to the contact with the air. The reliefs are made of gypsum, an easily carved and locally available stone. Due to the limited craft of the ancient time, many sculptures chose gypsum because it is ease the process of cut. The reliefs found in the panels are all low relief. It also requires less work and is cheaper to produce, because less modeling is required. These reliefs were carved with delicate craft, showing common motifs such as the king accompanied with the winged genie performing a ritual process or some battle scenes. The two reliefs we are going to…

In the first two tombs, the emperor took a whole political system with him, and because of the various types of sculptures he brought, it's believed that he was imitating the real organization of the Qin dynasty that he created. Also recovered were battle axes, crossbows, arrowheads, and spears. A suggested protective function became known by those who excavated the tomb because some of the clay warriors held actual bronze and iron weapons; therefore the meaning of protection goes beyond symbolic and functional. Additional weapon assemblage included crossbow triggers, swords, lances, spears, halberds, and hooks, which were used as ceremonial weapons. Lances and halberds bore long sentence inscriptions which were believed to be inscriptions of the master potters who made the art, while the swords, triggers, hooks, and ferrules were only partially marked with numbers so proper placement of the weapons could be assigned. These weapons were extremely well preserved due to protective chrome plating found on 40,000 bronze arrowheads that were also recovered. Contained in the 3rd tomb were the high-ranking officials, chariots, and bronze carriages fitted with silver and gold. The final pit was left unfinished which is why it's suggested that the burial pit was never…

Openings in the surface and near-surface bedrock are frequently microscopic, but they may also be large enough to be conspicuous and are sometimes huge. In any case, they occur in vast numbers and provide avenues along which weathering agents can attack the bedrock and break it apart. Subsurface weathering is initiated along these openings, which can be penetrated by such weathering agents such as water, air, and plant roots. As time passes, the weathering effects spread from the immediate vicinity of the openings into the denser rock beyond.…
