The problem to solve in this article is childhood obesity. This paper gives the views that the parents have on the way the schools play a part in childhood obesity. Over the last few years the number of childhood obesity has skyrocketed. Roughly 9 million children have been reported to be obese and that number is steadily increasing. (Murphy & Polivka, 2007) . Schools more than ever play a significant role in our children today. Obesity can lead to many health issues if the problem is not addressed. If children simply add more physical activities and correct bad eating habits this can lower the numbers tremendously. According to Murphy and Polvika, Myers and Vargas decided to survey 200 parents to get their perspective on childhood obesity. In that article it explains how the parents feel and what they feel can correct this problem.…

This shouldn’t come to a surprise to most, that America holds the number one position for obesity. (Wintrup) Not only Americans as a whole but the children. More than one of five children between the ages of 6 and 17 are considered overweight. This is something that needs to change immediately. There are too many health risks at stake for these young children including: diabetes, high blood pressure, depression, anxiety, and poor academic performance. (Alan) In 2005 a study found that children today may have shorter lives by two to five years than their parents because of obesity. (Palmer) Childhood obesity alone is not the only issue facing children today, although being overly large may prevent the child from living life to the fullest. However, the co-morbidities relating to childhood obesity are the real killers. Hypertension, type 2 diabetes, respiratory ailments, sleep apnea, and depression are just some of the common problems linked directly to obesity in children (Henry). Others…

Why is childhood obesity increasing so much? Schools play a role in childhood obesity. There are ways to prevent it. I think schools should give healthier lunch, they should ban their high calorie snacks and drinks, and they should have more physical activities. If we don’t start now in a few more years 90 % off all children will become obese. All the unhealthy things that schools provide for children increase their weight. Childhood obesity is a big social issue in America and around the world. So we can change that by getting schools involved. If we get schools involved it will lessen the amount of childhood obesity.…

Childhood obesity is much easier to prevent than to fix all the health problems that a generation is going to have to endure because of it. The first step has to be the education of the parents. They need to be told the importance of breast feeding, exercise and proper eating habits. They also need to be introduced to low fat snack foods and exactly what proper nutrition for their children entails. In cases where heredity is the problem, they need to know how to build self esteem in their children and deal with psychological problems as they arise.…
