Weill Cornell Personal Statement
Weill Cornell Medical College is known for its innovators who have brought to life cutting-edge tests and procedures like Dr. Papanicolaou’s Pap Smear that revolutionized the early detection and prevention of cervical cancer and Dr. Schiff’s “deep brain stimulation” therapy for patients in minimally conscious state. I believe that Weill Cornell's dedication to collaboration and teamwork has led to a legacy of excellence and I would be honored for the opportunity to learn and grow as an aspiring physician-scientist in this environment. I am interested in participating in the small group Problem-Based Learning sessions in the curriculum that facilitate communication, knowledge sharing and learning among peers. Moreover, the many research opportunities within the Weill Cornell/Rockefeller/Sloan-Kettering Tri-Institutional MD PhD Program and its affiliation with neighboring hospitals excites me.

I am intrigued by the Shared Discovery Curriculum. I think it is very beneficial for medical students because it provides them with an opportunity to work ahead of traditional preparation and to gain as much clinical experience as possible. I believe that I will be successful in the Shared Discovery Curriculum because I am consistent, hardworking and strategic. Consistency is a very important part of success. As a future physician, I know that there will be times when I have a lot of responsibilities and my ability to be consistent will allow me to continue to put in energy when feeling overwhelmed. I am also hardworking and strive to do my best in all things. I understand that the road to medicine is not an easy one but I am willing…

I completely agree! I thought Elie Wiesel’s speech was very moving! How often do we turn our heads from the hurt and suffering? I know that I am sometime uncomfortable with watching people suffer but I often don’t do anything about it. I know that there are hungry people in different countries. However, I don’t send money to organizations that will feed the hungry. I want to be a very generous person, but we all have our limits. Especially, since I am in high school I have a hard time saving money and also giving money. Even though I can’t give a lot of money I can volunteer my time. I believe that a lot of what Elie Wiesel still rings…

My goals for residency are simple – to continuously learn in order to educate and heal. Although I have been involved in the community in various ways for many years, I am truly excited to start giving back to society from a different perspective – that of a physician, of a person’s first stop in their most vulnerable of times. Family Medicine is a broad field that will challenge me in many ways, but I am ready to enhance my knowledge in a program that fosters learning through a supportive, team approach where patients and their futures are the greatest concerns.…

Major after major, I could never find the career that I could be passionate about—until I found speech-language pathology. I had not realized that this career path was so diverse and offered so many opportunities, such as the ability to do research throughout your career, to make a difference by serving underserved populations, and allowed for the use of alternative methods to reach patients. Speech-language pathology is a service profession that is dedicated to treating individuals with communication and swallowing disorders. In order to give the best treatment possible, it is imperative that the professionals in this field utilize the research…
