Welcome To Night Monologue
“All the beauty in the world was made within the oppressive limitations of time, and death, and impermanence….” is what Cecil Palmer the radio host said in an episode of “Welcome To Night Vale”.
“BZZZT! BZZZT!”
Green eyes snap open awake. They looked around trying to find the noisy object. There sitting at a desk is a female young adult of 20 years with hair dyed a pale pink and skin a mocha brown. The girl scowled when her eyes spotted her phone, she appeared to living in a dorm on a college campus. Posters of cryptids and monsters lined her walls. In the corner was a bed and a nightstand with a Lava Lamp on it sitting also on the nightstand was a copy of the book “The Hobbit” by J. R. R. Tolkien also on the desk, where she was currently sitting

She looked at the phone it was a text from her friend Janice it read “Heyyyyyyyyy nerd! Lol C: You coming to the party?”. The young girl knitted her brows in confusion. ‘Party?’ she thought to herself... “What….party…?” she said to herself as she carefully typed out the words.
Her phone buzzed angrily. “WHAT?” her friend Janice sent. “DEX WERE YOU NOT PAYING ATTENTION ABOUT THE PARTY IT’S WHY YOU DID ALL THAT ART CRAP.” The girl Dex thought about it a minute and then it clicked. The Party! The special party their campus planned out because of the big fundraiser they made weeks before the big game! Everyone raised a ton of money to pay for it. All the bake sales, big fraternity parties, the car washes the sororities did….hell even Dex raised money by doing art requests for everyone around campus and doing commissions on her tumblr. The party was a big field trip to Russia during their big spring break. “Shit…..I completely forgot!” Dex typed out. Suddenly her phone went off, “” Dex’s phone went off, “I AM NOT AS FINE AS I SEEM!!”
“SHIT!” Dex yelled out startled by the sudden blaring music coming from her phone at full

‘I can’t believe it…..a trip to Russia for the whole campus….’ she thought. Of course not everyone was going. Quite a few sororities and fraternities wanted to go to florida for spring break and a majority of kids had families they wanted to see. All Dex knew was that her group of friends was going, one fraternity, one sorority, and a some professors. Dex let out a sigh and heaved herself out of the chair she was in, she walked to her bathroom and looked at herself in the mirror. Her hair was a mess a few pieces were stuck in her septum piercing and a trail of dried spit was in the left corner of her

A few seconds of silence passed. The next thing she said came out as almost a whisper, so quiet that I almost didn’t hear it. “She probably doesn’t even want to see me again,” she quietly scoffed, rolling her eyes. I just stayed where I was, silently protesting her stubbornness. She slumped, and sat back down in the plastic chair behind her.…

After the show was over, Jetta went up to her room to leave Gina and Olivia to talk to each other. She rolled her eyes with a groan and put a do not enter sign on her door so they wouldn’t bother her. A constant war bounced around in mind as I wondered if coming to this game was worth the stress. I chatted with teachers on my way inside feeling relieved to see familiar faces. Next, I made my way towards the hill besides the expansive bleachers. The smell of cheap perfumes and colognes mixing together stung my nose as people stand way too close in small groups. I greeted the people whom I had made acquaintances within the first week of school before gravitating to a close friend.…

Before electricity and technology advanced to how it was today. And even way before gunpowder was invented, and wars were fought with steel and blades. There was a time when humanity was disparaged and hiding from the monsters that roamed the lands, the Yanjikus. Quivering and crawling underneath the rocks that were littering the plains and mountains. Humans were only waiting for their untimely demise, or as to what they called ‘the coming of the darkness‘.…
